SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Scholarship opportunities are arriving daily in the Counseling Center. Please review the newsletter and visit the counseling center to pick up the applications. Also make sure you are getting the up to date scholarships posted in the WCPS Scholarship newsletter “Show Me the Money”. Sign up at or follow the link posted on our counseling website.

ALSATIA CLUB FOUNDATION INC - a $500 scholarship to deserving Washington County graduate on the basis of financial need, scholastics and recommendations. Deadline: 2nd Monday in May. (May 13)

Altizer Memorial Scholarship- is given yearly by the Center for Joint Surgery and Sports Medicine to two deserving high school grads of Washington County who have at least a 3.0 GPA, are active in their school and/or community and plan to continue their education at an accredited institution. Recommendations and essay required.

Deadline: May 1.

The Bowman Family Scholarship: A $1000 scholarship awarded to a Williamsport High School Graduate who plans to attend college as a full-time student in the fall. Based on community participation, high school activities, work experience, and financial need. Essay and 1 teacher recommendation needed. Deadline: May 8

Bulldog Federal Credit Unionawards two $500 scholarships - one to a male and one to a female applicant who is a member of the credit union and has already been accepted to a college or university for the upcoming fall semester. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and not be related to any BFCU employee or board member. Deadline: April 22.

Certain-Teed Corporation Educational Scholarship: This $500 is to assist ambitious young men and women who have excellent high school achievement, school and community involvement and good character to continue their formal education. Deadline: April 30

Clare & Robert Moore Scholarship Fund: offers a yearly $1,000 scholarship to a student who is majoring in English and attending the Notre Dame of Maryland University. Deadline: April 15, 2016

District 12 Ruritan Club of Fairplay Scholarship - This $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a student who lives in the District 12 voting jurisdiction (Fairplay area) and attends a Washington County school. (A map of the district is attached to the scholarship) Deadline: April 30, 2015

Fountaindale School for the Arts and Acadmeic Excellence Alumni Scholarship – Two $250 scholarships awarded to a Washington County High School graduate who attended Fountaindale Elementary for at least 2 years. Deadline: April 29

HCC Foundation, Inc. Scholarships - Applications for both the HCC Foundation Scholarships and scholarships awarded through the Financial Aid Office are currently available online at hagerstowncc.edu, in the Financial Aid Office at HCC or in your guidance office. The HCC Foundation Scholarship Committee awards a number of scholarships each with its own criteria and dollar amounts in the fall and spring of every academic year to students taking at least six credits. Recipients are selected by the Foundation Scholarship Committee. The Student Financial Aid Office uses the same application and awards miscellaneous scholarships from private donors and organizations. They are usually awarded to students in financial need who show scholastic promise. Most scholarships are for a one year period but some may be renewed the following year. Deadline: April 15, 2015

Dr. and Mrs. Scott Hamilton Scholarship - presented to an outstanding senior who has excelled in academics, participated in school and community activities and plans to attend college or trade school in the fall. Deadline: May 10

Hickory Elementary School PTA Scholarship–This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a deserving Washington County high school graduate. Student must have attended Hickory Elementary School for at least three years, have a 3.0 GPA or higher, participated in extracurricular activities and demonstrates qualities of leadership, civic pride and outstanding character. Applications are available in Guidance. Deadline April 30.

Jean Cushwa Art Scholarship Award – This $1000 scholarship is awarded to one graduating senior who plans to pursue a career in Visual Art, Art History, Art Education, Design, Architecture or Museum Studies. Deadline: April 1

Joseph E. Paul Memorial Scholarship: $500 scholarship intended to be given to a well-rounded student who expemplifies a care and giving personality to both his/her community and peers. Applicants who are pursuing a medical or health related field will be given special consideration. Deadline – May 5

Korean War Veterans Association - Antietam Chapter 312 will provide funding for an academic scholarship to a Washington County senior who must be a direct bloodline relative of a Korean war veteran who meets the membership requirements of the KWVA. Deadline: April 15, 2015

Lions Club of Williamsport - This organization will award a $3,000 scholarship (payable over two years) to a deserving WHS senior who resides in the Williamsport school district. Scholarships will be paid directly to the 2 or 4 year institution in the amount of $1500 per year for each of the first two years the recipient is enrolled as a full time student. The scholarship will be based on academic achievement, financial need and community involvement. More details can be found on the application. Deadline: May 1, 2015.

The Luther “Jay” Grimes Memorial Student Service Hours Scholarship: This $500 Scholarship has been established to benefit a graduating Williamsport High School senior who has completed more than 100 student service learning hours. Deadline: May 1

The Glenn “Skip” Malott Memorial Athletic Scholarship – This $500 scholarship has been established to benefit a Williamsport High School athlete. Must have attended WHS all four years, played a varsity sport and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline May 1.

The Glenn “Skip” Malott Memorial Band Scholarship – This $500 scholarship has been established to benefit a Williamsport High School athlete. Must have attended WHS all four years, been a member of the Blue Band and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline May 1.

Horatio Alger Association Career & Technical Scholarship – for students pursuing a career or technical education in a post-secondary environment. Apply online before June 1

MAPCCS Scholarship Awards–the Maryland Association of Private Colleges and Career Schools awarded to a 2016 high school graduate planning on attending one of the following schools: Baltimore School of Massage, Empire Beauty Schools, Fortis College, Holistic Massage Training Institute or North American Trade Schools. Deadline: May 23

Maryland Farm Vureau Scholarships & Grant – Two separate scholarships available for students majoring in Agricultural Science. Deadline - April 15

Mediary Lodge #140 AF & AM Masonic Scholarship - This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a WHS senior. Essay required. Deadline - April 15

Morris Frock American Legion Auxilliary Scholarship - for graduating seniors who will be majoring in the health care field or the education field. Essay, transcripts and references required. Deadline: April 23

Pittsburgh Steelers Fan Club: For graduates who are members of, or the son or daughter of, the Pittsburgh Steelers Fan Club of Maryland. Deadline – May 15

Robert A. Pole Memorial Scholarship (Graduation Award) was established in 2005, when Robert Pole was killed in Iraq along with co-workers Ronald Hyatt, Robert McCoy and Ryan Young (a WHS graduate). This scholarship is now awarded yearly at Williamsport High School at the request of Ryan Young’s family to a senior who will be attending college in the fall to pursue a career in law enforcement, criminal justice, law or law-related field. Ruby M. Seymour Scholarship - The Mayor and Town Council of Williamsport have established this $500 scholarship to honor Mrs. Seymour for her lifetime of community giving and involvement. The applicants should be very active in school affairs and also have time to be active in community volunteer work - such as fire companies, scouting, church, hospital, ambulance, etc.

Russ Weibel Sports Scholarship – $500 awarded to a 2016 varsity athlete who is planning on attending HCC in the fall. You do not have to play sports at HCC to qualify. Deadline – April 8.

Samantha Kelly Memorial Scholarship – A $1000 renewable scholarship awarded to a Williamsport High School female varsity athlete who is planning to attend a 2 or 4 year college. Must hold a 3.0 GPA, and may not have been granted a full scholarship to college for athletics or academics. Applications are available at:

Springfield Middle School PTA Scholarship – This five hundred dollar ($500) scholarship has been established to benefit a deserving Williamsport High School graduate who will be pursuing a college education in the fall following graduation. This scholarship will be paid directly to the school of the recipient’s choice to be used for tuition, room and board, or books as deemed necessary by the winner. Deadline – May 8

The Town and Country Garden Club Scholarship - This $500 scholarship is available to graduating high school students entering college. Applicant must be planning to major in horticulture, agriculture, landscape design or closely related field. Details are available in the guidance office scholarship drawer. Deadline : May 1

Tri-State Farm and Toy Collectors Club - announces this year’s $1,000 scholarship opportunity for seniors interested in pursuing a program of advanced studies leading to a degree in Agriculture/Natural Resources or Horticulture, Landscaping, Forestry or Natural Resources Management. Minimum 3.0 GPA required. Deadline: April 30, 2015

Washington County Farm Bureau Scholarships/Grants– Several different scholarships offered to Washington County residents pursuing secondary education whose parents are members of the Farm Bureau. Selection criteria based on application, essay, letters of recommendation and interview. Deadline: April 15, 2015

Washington County Teachers Association Scholarship - awarded to a deserving senior of Washington County who is planning to pursue a higher education upon graduation from high school. The applicant must be a son or daughter of a current, retired or deceased member of the Washington County Teacher’s Association. Deadline: April 10, 2015

Williamsport Elementary PTA: $500 scholarship to benefit a WHS graduate who attended Williamsport Elementary for at least 3 years and attended Springfield Middle School all three years. Must have a 3.0 GPA and participated in extra-curricular activities as well as demonstrates qualities of leadership, civic pride and outstanding character. Deadline: May 8.

Williamsport Library “Stephanie Catlett & Sue Ann Sullivan Memorial Scholarship - Two scholarships of $500 will be awarded to deserving seniors. Selection will be based on Educational Achievement, Community Leadership, 250 word ESSAY, acceptance to an institute of higher learning. Deadline: April 30.

Williamsport Moose Legion - $1000 scholarship for a 2014 Williamsport graduate. Applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Applications are available in the Guidance Office.

Williamsport Retirement Center “Character Counts” Awardof $500 is presented to a WHS graduate who is planning to attend college in the fall. The applicant should possess qualities of good citizenship, honesty, integrity, etc. Deadline: April 30th

Williamsport Retirement Center National Honor Society Volunteer Awardwill be presented to a member of the WHS chapter of the National Honor Society who volunteers their time at the Retirement Center. Deadline: April 30th.

Williamsport Rotarian “Interact” Scholarship & Williamsport Rotarian “General” Scholarships- The Williamsport Rotary Club will provide TWO separate $1,000 scholarships for WHS grads who are pursuing continuing education and successfully meet the application criteria. Any pending grad may apply for the “General’ Scholarship, while only members of the Interact Club may apply for the “Interact” Scholarship. Deadline: April 24.
