CAPC Minutes for April 7, 2008

Non-Members Present: Ethel Callen; John Campbell; Susan Hunter; John Mascaritolo; David Messer; Benita Moore; and Tammy Wilson.

Burns-Ardolino called the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m.

Approval of Minutes

A motion was made by Finlay, seconded by Preston to approve minutes as amended from the meeting of March 17, 2008. They are posted at

Old Business

  1. Natural Sciences Curriculum changes:

Furlong explained proposed changes to program due to course changes that were approved 3-17-08. A motion was made by Burningham seconded by Boudell to approve curriculum changes. Council approved.

  1. No Report from Subcommittee concerning online courses.

New Business

1.Changes to CAPC Course Proposal Cover Sheet

Burns-Ardolino proposed the current cover sheet include a course prefix, number, and name at the top of the form. The cover sheet form will be kept in the Office of the Provost and is required. A motion was made by Burningham, seconded by Finlay to approve cover sheet modifications. Council approved.

2.PHYSICS 2454 & 3650 Course Proposals

PHYS 2454 Furlong reviewed new course proposal for Council. This course is geared to the Pre-Engineering students; Furlong has done research to make sure that the course will transfer to other institutions. There will be no minimum grade for the prereq’s. A motion to approve PHYS 2454 was made by Burningham, seconded by Boudell and approved by Council.

PHYS 3650L Furlong gave an overview of the course. Course will be taught by Krivosheev and Campbell and will count as an elective. A motion to approve PHYS 3650L was made by Finlay, seconded by Boudell, and approved by Council.

3.CHEM 4204 prerequisite changes

Furlong stated prerequisites for CHEM 4204 were modified in order to prepare the way for the degree in Chemistry. A motion was made to approve changes by Boudell, seconded by Ogden, and approve by Council.

4.EDUC 3100 Course Proposal

Messer gave a brief overview of EDUC 3100. Currently this type course is offered at ColumbusState and GeorgiaCollege & StateUniversity. This course will increase the number of hours from 120 to 122 and may affect student financial aid. A motion was made to approve course by Finlay, seconded by Krivosheev, and approved by Council.

5.Supply Chain Management Minor Proposal

Mascaritolo stated the minor proposal in Supply Chain Management was not approved two years ago due to lack of faculty in the discipline. Student interest is high and there have been 35 students in the course that is being proposed.

MKTG 3850 – Mascaritolo explained the desire to add a course that will focus on “How to run a Warehouse.” A similar course is offered at Georgia Tech. After minor modifications to proposal a motion was made to accept as amended MKTG 3850 by Burningham, seconded by Bullen, and motion was approved by Council.

Once course was approved a few modifications were made to the minor proposal and a motion was made to approve by Burningham, seconded by Finlay, and approved by Council.

6.ECON 4800 Course Proposal

Finlay gave an overview of ECON 4800. This course will increase number of electives offered and expect high demand. The grade requirement was not listed since all School of Business courses require a grade of C or higher. A motion was made by Burningham to approve ECON 4800, the motion was seconded by Boudell and approve by Council.

7.ROTC Course Proposals – tabled until next meeting.

8.ENGL Curriculum Changes & Course Proposals – tabled until next meeting.
