Canora Minor Hockey Exec Meeting ~ September 20, 2015

Present: Kelly Beblow, Dean Wilgosh, Michelle Hembling, Jennifer Sleeva, Cindy Sznerch, Kent Gress, Kelly Strelioff.

Trip of Month Committee Members (stayed up until Trip of Month Report): Tracey Heshka, Roseanne Heshka, Meridee Kopelchuk.

Absent: Jeannette Ebert, Iona Hleboff, Amanda Zuravloff & Jen Hamilton (both from Trip of Month committee)

1)  Meeting called to order @ 8:04 pm

2)  Kelly B adopted minutes from Aug 26/15, seconded by Cindy. Minutes from Sept 2nd AGM adopted by Michelle & seconded by Tracey, with exception of wo changes to be made – 1 to add Registar & another to add a comma instead of decimal point to bank account balance.

3)  New Business Arising from Minutes –

  1. “Welcome Pakages” for parents – decided will leave up to each Coach/Manager to forward their expectations of player/families, what parents can expect from hockey year etc.
  2. Discussion of parents being on ice with IP kids – Michelle will look into waiver form for parents to sign prior to going out on ice. Coaching staff insured through SHA.

4)  Adoption of Agenda – Jennifer made motion/Kelly B seconded.

5)  Trip of the Month Committee

  1. Report – Financials same as previous meeting Aug 26, 2015. Tracey has recently had the books audited. B/c only required to keep ticket stubs for 3 years, Tracey will shred all of the paperwork/tickets from 2011 & previous. Will keep the Bank Statements & Financial Reports from the last 7 years. Michelle made motion. Kelly B seconded. Kelly S will forward copy of minutes to Tracey.
  2. 2015-2016 Draws – plan for 350 tickets to be sold.
  3. Trip of the Month is a separate committee (meet on own as needed) – decided Committee members will attend first & last meetings yearly.

6)  Registrar Report – per Cindy Sznerch

  1. IP – 10 confirmed/ 4 ‘maybe’s
  2. Novice – 21 confirmed (2 team split)
  3. Atom – 14 confirmed/ 4 possible
  4. Pee Wee – 9 confirmed/ 3 possible
  5. Bantam – 3 players (asked for releases).
  6. Midget – 1 player

·  As per Oct 29/14 meeting decision, reminder that registrations accepted til Oct 15th, late fee of $100 if Registrations/payment accepted after Oct 1st.

7)  Resumes

  1. Michelle received 4 Novice & 5 Atom Resumes (however Ryan Hauber withdrew name tonight prior to meeting).
  2. Vern Schick contacted Michelle – would like to coach Bantam or Midget age – Dean verified Vern has years of experience. However, d/t likely no such team for those age groups, will ask Vern to coach PeeWee (along with Kent Hembling & ? Shaun Sleeva).
  3. ** No IP Coaches** yet – need to have an IP parent Coaching – will need to put out another call-out for same.

Discussion of splitting of Atom team as possibly will have 18 players. Need to know ASAP as Michelle has ice scheduling meeting on Wed night. Michelle will forward email to Atom parents for their vote on preference as to decide if wanting 1 or 2 teams. There are 9 possible Novice players to AP up.

Also discussed idea of having “Ghost coaches”/Registered coaches available in case a Coach is not available for game/practice. Tabled for now.

·  Discussion brought forth about the Importance of Fair Play. Everybody plays. Dean will look at Policy on same & forward to Jeannette for website.

8)  Fees

  1. Motion made per Dean that parents have 3 weeks (after the start of the first practice) to get refund if child decides not to play. No refund after 3 week period. Jennifer seconded motion.

9)  Concessions for SHA

  1. Request for concessions need to be forwarded to SHA by Oct 4th
  2. Randi Foster – request to play down to Atom
  3. Mathew Dmitruik (PeeWee) – 1st year playing – requesting to play Atom.

10)  Rink Schedule – per Michelle.

  1. 2 practice schedules proposed – Majority Vote for Option “B” (below)

Note: Even though not enough Midget numbers for team at this time, Kent has been in talks with players, therefore, Michelle will still plan to schedule ice time at scheduling meeting.

11)  Power Skating

  1. Tentative start date for Oct 17th as long as ice in.
  2. Dates for land & ice session: Oct 17th (x 2 sessions), 18th, 19th, 21, 23, 24 (x 2 sessions), 26, 27th
  3. Jennifer Sleeva will email schedule for Jeannette to put up on website.

12)  New Business

  1. Kamsack numbers – their association has capped numbers - Novice capped at 12, while Atoms capped at 9 (already have 12). Canora could take up to 4 Peewees. Kamsack will know more by the end of this week.
