PERSONAL STATEMENT

Born and brought up in the Himalayan country of Nepal I did my medical school from Tribhuvan university, Kathmandu, Nepal and was awarded with scholarship to complete the medical education followed by Samjhana memorial Gold medal for excellence in medical education. I received scholarship from Swedish institute to complete Masters in Public Health from International school of Public health, Umea university, Sweden. I did internal medicine residency from St Francis Hospital, Evanston, IL (affiliated to UIC). After completing residency I did chief residency at St Francis hospital and had an opportunity to take administrative and educational role. I joined MCW as assistant Professor in 2009 and have been providing patient care and medical education for last 8 years.

I am actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students and internal medicine residents. My philosophy of teaching consists of, not only instructing students and residents of the basics of medicine, but also mentoring them in order to help them develop at both a personal and a professional level. In addition to teaching clinical skills during inpatient rotations, I also emphasize on the importance of professionalism, teamwork and providing students some level of autonomy along with good supervision. I provide students the opportunity to become involved in direct patient care and decision making while simultaneously making myself available to provide answers to any of their questions. Besides clinical teaching in hospitalist and house staff teams i do core teaching sessions that includes facilitating case based discussion for medical students, bench to bedside course, noon conference and morbidity and mortality conferences.My teaching evaluations for medical students and residents are consistently above department average. My medical students evaluation are 4.6-4.9/5.

I was awarded MCW’s Outstanding Medical Student Teachers award in 2009/2010 and 2013/2014. I also got nominated for Edward J Lennon award for clinical Teaching this year from Medical college of Wisconsin.

I have provided mentoring and editorial assistance to more than 60 medical students and residents resulting in more than 75 poster and oral presentations in various National and regional ACP,SGIM and SHM meetings.I have mentored more than 22 medical students and 18 medicine residents in preparing manuscript and publishing in peer reviewed and non peer reviewed journals like Journal of case reports, consultant 360,Journal of General internal Medicine,ACP hospitalist and SGIM forum. I am also involved in development of curriculum and courses for medical students.I conducted a workshop at Midwest Society of General Internal Medicine(2016) on”Mentoring students and residents on increasing scholarly productivity”. I did an invited presentation at General Internal Medicine 29th Annual Update in Primary Care (CME conference),Egg Harbor, Door County, October 2016 and received excellent evaluation from 73 attendees with average score of 4.8 out of 5.

I am currently involved in a survey based research project to study the outcome of writing and presenting case reports for medical students.

I have reviewed multiple clinical vignettes and workshop for ACP,SGIM and SHM. Have reviewed manuscripts for Journal of case reports and British medical Journal

I am actively involved in many committees of MCW and FMLH including continuing medical education committee, Library committee, intern selection committee and Hospitalist operational committee. I am also ACP Wisconsin chapter coordinator for MCW.

BIOSKETCH

My name is Dr. Pinky Jha. I am currently working as a Hospitalist in the Division of General Internal Medicine since July, 2009. I attended medical school at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal and completed my Masters in Public Health from the International School of Public Health in Umea, Sweden. I completed my Internal Medicine Residency training and Chief Residency at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois.

As an Academic Hospitalist, I provide clinical care to the patients admitted to Froedtert Hospital and I am actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students and residents. Mentoring and advising them in various scholarly activities is a part of my personal teaching goal because I believe that writing and presenting cases or research work is the best way of learning and sharing knowledge. I am particularly interested in mentoring students and residents in writing and presenting case reports in various national and regional meetings. I have mentored more than 50 scholarly projects including a few publications and presentations at regional and national meetings like ACP,SGIM,SHM. In addition, I am involved in different committee work at MCW including CME and the Library Committee. I was awarded MCW’s Outstanding Medical Student Teachers pin in 2009-2010 and 2013-2014. I have been nominated for Lennon clinical teaching award from MCW for 2017.
