Canadian Ice Hockey Championship/Tournament
Technical & Rules
Participation:
a)Membership:
Every layer participating in any sanctioned tournaments must be a member of the Canadian Deaf Sports Association (CDSA) and their Provincial Deaf Sports Association.
b)Registration:
Every player participating in any sanctioned tournaments such as the Canadian Ice Hockey Championship must register on the form provided by the host committee of the Canadian Ice Hockey Championship.
c)Eligibility:
The Canadian Deaf Ice Hockey Federation (CDIHF) and the host committee of the tournament will verify the eligibility of all teams and players participating in the CDIHF’s Deaf Ice Hockey Tournaments. Participate must be atleast fifteen (15) years of age or older.
Tournaments:
a)Games:
All games in sanctioned tournament shall be refereed by the official of the hosting tournaments recognized by the CDIHF and CDSA.
b)Disciplinary Action:
Disciplinary Action, if any, shall be communicated to the officials of the hosting committee recognized by the CDIHF and CDSA.
c)Tournaments:
All sanctioned tournaments will be played only under the official Canadian Hockey Association (CHA) playing rules. Should there be any variance from such rules; the decision will be made by the officials of the hosting tournament recognized by CDIHF.
d)Equipment:
All players must wear helmet, players under 18 years old must wear full faceprotector and players 18 years old and over can wear either full face protectionor half-visor protector attached to hockey helmet.
Players may wear neckguard-throat protection (optional) is advisable andrecommended for their own protection except 17 years old and under must wear it.Neckguard must have BNQ approved.
All players must wear CSA approved equipment.
Player’s responsibility
a)Player must attend at the arena at least forty (40) minutes prior to the start of the game. All players must be ready to go leave the dressing room no later than forty-five (45) minutes after the game.
b)No player, coach, official or team representative may drink any kind of alcohol in the arena and property.
c)Each player will be verified by the statistician and chronometer before every game to ensure that the regular player wears the same number and that all team jerseys are the same colour. Players whose jerseys are different colour shall not play.
Regulations of the Tournament/Championship
a)Every game shall consist of three (3) periods of fifteen (15) minutes“stop time”.
b)In all round robin games shall be made for flooding the ice after 2nd consecutive periods.
c)No overtime shall be played in round robin games except in semi and championship games.
d)The game rules shall be based the CHA rulebook. With the additions.
e)All physical contact is allowed on the ice.
f)During round-robin games, a tie game will remain as tied. Scoring: Win-2 points; Tie-1 point; Loss-0 point.
If there is a tie in positions, the following will be used:
(1.1)Most wins
(1.2)Record against each other
(1.3)Goals scored minus goals allowed in all round-robin games
(1.4)Goals scored minus goals allowed in games played against each other.
(1.5)Total goals scored in all round-robin games.
(1.6)Most goals scored in one game.
(1.7)Most periods won against the other tied team.
(1.8)Most periods won in the round-robin.
g)Duration of the overtime periods shall be the same as the 1st period, terminating when the 1st goal is scored. Teams will change ends after each overtime period.
Penalty
a)Minor penalty will be two (2) minutes.
b)Major penalty will be five (5) minutes.
c)Any player who engages in a fight shall receive a five (5) minutes major penalty plus a game misconduct. If any player is engaged in a second fight in the tournament, he will be automatically expelled from the remainder of the tournament/championship.
d)Any player, coach, official or representative of the team who receives a gross misconduct, shall be banished from the tournament.
e)Only the captains and their assistants of each team will be allowed to communicate with the referee during the break between periods.
f)The balance of any penalties that have not expired during the regular playing time shall be served during overtime.
Drugs:
If any player, official or representative of any team is caught with illegal drugs or in the act of using such illegal drugs, the team may be automatically banished from the tournament/championship. The CDSA, ASSQ, and CDIHF will not tolerate any player, official or representative of the team being involved with illegal drugs of any kind.
Appeals:
a)Any player or team member who disputes a decision regarding expulsion/disqualification from any or all CDIHF sanctioned events may appeal to the CDIHF Executive Board, who shall determine if a fair hearing was held and reached. The decision of the CDIHF Board shall be final.
b)Any disqualified player or team member who desires to appeal must notify CDIHF in writing, of his intention to appeal within thirty (30) days after mailing of notice of disqualification. It is understood that CDIHF Executive Board at its following regular meeting will review any such appeal.
c)Such player or team member, at his option, may have his respective representative at the appeal meeting if so requested by the CDIHF Executive Board.
Protests:
a)There will be no official protest against the Referee’s Call.
b)All Referees’ Calls are final.
c)A protest can be lodge against Referee or Lineman if a proven direct familiar relationship exists between the official and anymember of either team or coaching staff playing. If such protect is upheld, the game will automatically be awarded to the non-conflicting team and therefore, it requires the officials to avoid situations where conflict of interest is evident.
d)The Protest Committee shall be made up of three (3) people on the committee. They are CDIHF’s Representative, Tournament Host’s Official, and Head Referee.
