  • Formalize the language of functions.
  • Explore the behavior of functions numerically, graphically, analytically, and verbally.
  • Use technology to discover relationships, test conjectures, and solve problems.
  • Write expressions, equations, and inequalities from physical models.
  • Communicate mathematics understanding formally and informally.

TEXTBOOK:

Springboard Mathematics with Meaning Algebra 1

MATERIALS:

Springboard textbook, Spiral Notebook, Pencils/Erasers, Index Cards (1 Pack), Markers/Colored Pencils/Crayons (1 Pack), Dry Erase Markers (1 Pack), Tissues/Baby Wipes (1 Pack), Graphing Calculator

GRADING:

Your quarter grades will be calculated based on the total points you accumulate out of the total number of points possible for the quarter. All grades are based on the work you complete and should be completed in a timely fashion. (For example, homework is expected to be completed before the next class.) All work must be shown to receive full credit! Assignments may be turned in late for partial credit, however, points will be deducted for each day it is late. Once the chapter test has been given, no late work for that chapter will be accepted. Any copying or cheating will result in an automatic zero! The CCHS Grading Scale is as follows: A: 100 – 93, B: 92 – 85, C: 84 – 73, D: 72 – 65, F: 64 and under.

TEST RE-TAKES:

Students often wish to re-take chapter tests for which they did not pass. Students may re-take chapter tests for which they have a failing grade with the following conditions: 1. The student must attend at least 1 after school ESS tutoring session before retaking the test. 2. The re-take must be taken after school, at no time will class time be given to do a test re-take. 3. The highest attainable grade for the retake is a 90%.

PARTICIPATION AND ATTENDANCE:

Participation as well as attendance is very important to be successful in math class. If you are absent from a class, it is your responsibility to find out what assignments were missed and then to complete them and turn them in. (Check the dry-erase board for missed assignments.) Any missed worksheets can be obtained from a basket located at the front of the classroom. In addition to making up your missed assignment(s), you also need to turn in the assignments that would have been collected the day you were absent. If you miss a test or quiz, only EXCUSED absences will be allowed to make those up. You will need to schedule a time (before or after school) to do that. If your absence is unexcused, you may not make up missed assignments.

COURSE OUTLINE (SUBJECT TO CHANGE):

This course includes: Unit 1 – Patterns and Equations, Unit 2 – Linear Functions, Unit 3 – Extensions of Linear Concepts, Unit 4 – Exponents, Radicals & Polynomials, Unit 5 – Quadratic Equations, Unit 6 – Data Analysis & Surveys
