Camp WiredFall 2014 Computer Programming

The Computer Lab is on the 2nd floor. The Medina Room is on the 3rd floor. All classesstart at 9:30am -11:00am. If you have a USB Flash drive bring it when class is in the ComputerLab. Also bring a headset or earphones when in the computer lab if you have them.We will not always need them but best to have them.

Classes are taught using the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system and Microsoft Office 2010 software.

Sept. 4(Medina Room)Computer Literacy – To be “Computer literate” there are a number of things you need to know. We will introduce you to Basic computer terminology and you will get to see a netbook, tablet, laptop and a desktop computer, along with misc. parts and what they are for. Sept. 11 (Computer Lab)Desktop Fundamentals– The desktop, taskbar, start menu, working with shortcuts and resizing and manipulating Windows. *Hands –OnActivity to be done in class

Sept. 25(Computer Lab)Meet the Mouse– We will be using several interactive websites to develop mouse skills. You will learn “Mouse Terminology” left click vs right click, single click vs double click. *Hands –OnActivity to be done in class

Oct. 2 (Medina Room)The Care & Feeding on your Computer –Is your computer running slower and slower everyday? Is your computer’s memory running low? Has the “S” key on your keyboard stopped working? Learn how to perk up your machine, dispose of unneeded files, and more with basic maintenance tools and when it’s time to call a Professional. Presentation and discussion

Oct. 9 (Computer Lab)Meet the Keyboard – We will learn what the various keys are for on the keyboard and use interactive websites to work on activities as well as have an in class activity. Keyboard Shortcuts will also be introduced. *Hands –OnActivity to be done in class

Oct. 16(Medina Room).Saving Your Work - Choosing a Storage Location, Creating a Filename . Save Versus Save As, What is cloud storage? Using Flash Drives, CD vs DVD storage. Presentation and discussion

Oct. 23 (Computer Lab)File & Folder Management- Learn to use Windows Explorer, your computer’s filing cabinet, to organize and manage your files and folders. During class, you will practice copying, moving, renaming and deleting items as well as using your recycle bin. The goal of computer file management is to ensure that you can find what you're looking for, even if you’re looking for it years after its creation.*Hands –OnActivity to be done in class

Oct. 30 (Medina Room)A Look at computer Software– Common computer software installed on every computer, what is it for? FREE options for software that one must pay for. An Introduction to Word Processing in preparation for the following week’s class in the Lab. Presentation and discussion

Nov. 6 (Computer Lab)Word Processing “Fun with Fonts” - Step byStep Activity using Microsoft Word 2010. This activity teaches students how to manipulate fonts *Hands –OnActivity to be done in class

Nov.13 (Medina Room)Computer Safety & Security- Are you afraid to use your computer for fear of getting a worm, horse, or parasite? Learn about computer viruses and how to protect your machine. Learn best practices on avoiding infection and how to keep your computer “vaccinated” with anti-virus software. Presentation and discussion

Nov. 20 (Computer Lab)Cut, Copy & Paste –“No glue or scissors required!’ This skill is a must have to learn when using a computer. You will be given an activity to be done at your own pace. By the time class is over you will be proficient. *Hands –OnActivity to be done in class
