ANNUAL REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Chairman’s Report (ML)

Welcome to the Cambridgeshire Table Tennis Association Annual General Meeting.

Many thanks to all of the Executive Committee members that have helped make the 2011/12 season run smoothly. We have held four meetings of the Cambs TTA during the season

Thanks to Tracey, who has continued as Secretary, although she has missed a few of the meetings before and after the birth of the twins.

Thanks once again to Brian Freer for his work as Treasurer, and to all Committee members for their work.

Another successful Closed tournament was held at Neale Wade in March. As usual, Brian Freer did all of the hard work prior to the day, but it was pleasing to see that Keith Richardson, Mick Harper and Caroline Wright all helped out on the control table during the day.

Thanks should also go to Derek Stacey, Trevor Furlong and all of the March TTA members that helped make the day possible.

Once again Peter Carter from Florida Trophies provided us with the trophies and Carol Livermore looked after the cafeteria all day, with Caroline Wright’s cakes being very popular.

We had a new winner of the Men’s singles title in Wayne Mason who overcame Daniel Fielding in the final.

Helen Arnold clinched the Ladies Singles for the second time in three seasons against Val Parkes, who has been a revelation all season. It’s great to see Val back amongst the trophies at the Championships.

Thanks to the organisers of our County teams all of the players that have given up their weekends to represent the County during the 2011/12 season.

Thanks to Matthew Knott for his work with both of the Senior teams, Roger Fensom for his efforts with the three Veteran’s sides, to Rod Hatton with the Over 60’s and to Carl Woolf with the Juniors and Cadets.

Matthew has decided that due to moving and work commitments that he is unable to continue in the role of Senior Match Secretary next season.

As we now look forward to the 2012/13 season, I am encouraged by the ideas that Hugo Brown has suggested to me recently. Hugo is now a key part of the Eastern Region Coaching team and has expressed his interest in helping our County Junior Squads with once a month training sessions at varying venues around the county.

I hope you will all support Hugo with this idea.

Martyn Livermore

12th June 2012

ML informed everyone that HB had offered to provide some coaching sessions to the youngsters within the County. HB, who is a Level 1 coach, said that he would be happy to offer once a month coaching sessions, at a different venue across the County each time (probably a Saturday). He has been working closely with Steve Gertsen and hoped that Steve would be able to help with 2 free sessions per year. HB has kindly offered his services free of charge, to add to this JT offered the Peterborough venue for free use as well. March kindly offered their venue for a nominal fee of around £2pp and the Haddenham venue would be free for use as well. BP suggested that the County provide some funding for this. BF was supportive of this idea to improve the standard and flow of the County Juniors and Cadets.

JT enquired as to the process for selecting the County squads and if there was any value in running a County selection tournament to add to the County Tournament results and the ranking lists from the local leagues. He offered Peterborough as a venue for such a tournament. The matter was discussed at length but no decision was made. All leagues were encouraged to send in the end of season averages to the County to facilitate the County squad selection process.

Juniors (CW)

Played 5: Lost 5. All of the individual wins were by the two girls Amy Catlin and Alice Murray, supported by Max Schweining.

Cadets (CW)

Played 6: W2, D0, L4. Wins were from Adam Jepson, Max Schweining and Harris Ryder.

The meetings were well organised and the teams are looking forward to next season.

CW reported that he had more than 20 names to fulfil both a cadet and junior team for the forthcoming year.

Again league secretaries were encouraged to supply end of season ranking lists in advance of selection to the committee, although since many of the cadets do not play in local leagues it was agreed that other options must also be considered.

ESTTA (Lesley Rate)

LR was not present but had provided the following reports in advance of the meeting.

English Schools Table Tennis Association.

Cambridgeshire 2011/12.

A very successful year for Cambs schools events, for the first time in the history of Cambs entering the National individual Championship we had a full entry into all the events. This put Cambs in the proud group of 14 counties out of 52 counties entering who were able to field a full team.

Within the Eastern Region Cambs and Essex were the only 2 counties who managed this achievement.

This year all Cambridgeshire schools had entry forms via the SSCOs and the P.E departments, as well as this all League Secs had entry forms and county junior sec plus all previous entrants had forms sent via email. The first sweep of entry forms went out in October 2011 [4 mths notice!!] and then continual reminders in some cases every 3 weeks!!! I have kept copies of all emails and reminders sent in case of any queries.

The Cambs Individual Championship held on Sunday 22nd January 2012 at a new venue this year Eastfield TTC in Peterborough was an excellent day played with good spirit and some close matches. All the players were a credit to their schools and families. Many thanks to Eastfield TTC for their help with the venue. To Werrington TTC for refreshments and organisation on the day. Thanks to Brian Freer who came over as a volunteer umpire.

A big vote of thanks must go to the parents who brought the players to the event and supported the championships. We had excellent press coverage this year from Peterborough Evening Telegraph, full page spread!!!

Many thanks go to Cambridgeshire County Association who kindly donated some money to allow us to buy shirts for the players so we would all look professional, and we did too!! All players were contacted to sort out sizes etc some of this ended up as guess work due to players not responding with their size.

The National Championships held at The Dome in Doncaster on 21st April 2012 was as usual very competitive and busy. Congratulations to all our players who played with passion and commitment.

A special mention goes to James Kelly who was runner up in his group and entered the main competition, also to Harry Davies and Louise Todd who both were 3rd in their respected groups. The rest of the team were placed 4th or 5th in their groups. All the players were a credit.

Plans are already under way for next season with a provisional date for the Cambs Individual Championships 20th January 2013 this is awaiting confirmation from the ETTA Calendar and the Schools calendar. Also invitations will go out to all schools in early September 2013 for any team entries.

If there are any queries please contact me.Thanks, Lesley Rate.

NATIONAL JUNIOR LEAGUE.

FINAL ROUND.

The final Saturday of National Junior League took place on 3rd March at Westfield TTC, Wellingborough.

We had a lot to look forward to and the teams were ready and keen to get going. Aces were playing in a very competitive first division had an uphill battle to face were in good humour and fired up ready to go. The first two matches were against the teams lying in first and third places both proved too strong for the lads. There were some excellent individual performances from the three players Harry Davies, Adam Jepson and first timer Max Schweining. Adam settled into his normal routine of 3-2 wins or 2-3 defeats making cornering and parenting tiring and I will be very grey after this week!!!!! Harry played so well and worked so hard, but just could not find the winning line. Max settled in so well and was a joy to watch although did spend a lot of the time too far back from the table!!! Max definitely got the smiley award.

The day progressed with more tight matches and long five sets. Sadly we could not get among the medals this time but did the club and themselves very proud never giving up, or losing the cool. WELL DONE ACES.

Werrington 2+2 playing their first season in the NJL were lying 4th in division 3 anything was possible.

The team of Ben Brown, Ed Emmerson, James Forster and Aaron Shaheed were all playing well and looking to move up the division.

Play started with a first match lost, a little disappointing but the only way now was up. The matches that followed were all very closely matched and ALL the players were brilliant. With the last match approaching against Bedford Modern B, 2+2 had to win 6-0 to secure second place and a medal. This was going to take all their concentration and support from team members, coaches and supporters. Werrington 2+2 won 6-0 WOW!!! They had done it, second and medal winners in their first season.

James was not available for the picture but all four players were a credit to the club and team.

Treasurer’s Report (BF)

The Income and Expenditure Account showed a profit of £718 for the year, most of which had come from the County Tournament. The expenditure was mostly due to County tournament weekends, with some bills still outstanding. There are a number of surplus County shirts in sizes XXL and XXS, if anyone wanted these they should contact BF. New shirts have been purchased for next season. A suggestion was made from MB that the County should look in to obtaining grants for e.g. coaching. These could be obtained from the ETTA or local councils e.g. South Cambs, Cambridge County Council. Any information should be fed in to BF.
