CAM350 v7.6 Sell Sheet, cont.

Product Name: / CAM350™ v7.6
Announce Date: / December 2002 (in a press release)
Target FCS: / December 2002
Audience: /
  • All existing CAM350 Users
  • PCB fabricators and PCB designers

What is it? / CAM350 V7.6 builds upon the enhancements in versions 7.5.x and provided new functionality per customer requests.
Version 7.6 contains a significant number of customer requested software corrections and improvements over V7.5. It also adds functionality with the Fast Array Module, and support for P-CAD 2001 and P-CAD 2002.
With version 7.6, the CAM350 product line continues to be positioned into two categories:
  • CAM350 for Engineering continues to deliver functionality targeted towards the PCB design community with robust DFF Analysis capabilities to help engineering groups stop critical fabrication flaws before they occur. New features such as the Fast Array Module allow the generation of sub-panels or arrays with just a few mouse clicks. Support for P-CAD 2001 and P-CAD 2002 PCB layout versions. This is in response to the large number of Altium, Protel and Accel users who prefer to use CAM350 over Altium’s CAMTastic product line.
  • CAM350 for Fabrication supports the fabrication factory by providing a process flow that integrates sales, manufacturing engineering, NC processing, and bare board testing into a single integrated solution. Fabrication customers will also see improvements in the handling of the varied data type prevalent in the industry today. Enhancements have been made to both the DRC and DFF modules as well.

Key Positioning and Benefits: /
  • An Integrated Fabrication Solution
CAM350 provides a complete flow that supports both sides of the engineering/manufacturing chasm. It’s a single application to support the transition from engineering PCB data into a physical PCB.
Key Positioning and Benefits (continued) /
  • CAM350 for Engineering
With powerful DFF analysis capability, CAM350 can isolate and correct fabrication defects before artwork is created. Greatly improving PCB manufacturability and reducing risk of design iterations. The Fast Array Module allows the user to create arrays of any size and shape with a couple mouse clicks. Boards can be manually oriented or automatically placed with the maximum utilization calculated. The addition of the P-CAD 2001 and P-CAD 2002 interfaces allow those users to work with intelligent data within the CAM350 environment.
  • CAM350 for Fabrication
Robust editors for panelization, and NC drilling/millingcaters to the manufacturing process flow, such that jobs typically “tooled” in 4 hours can now be done in 30-60 minutes with higher-quality results. With a super fast architecture, features such as netlist extraction, draw-to-raster polygon conversion, convert composite,
and the entire suite of DFF audits, are the primary contributors to throughput gains. Polygon issues inherent in Gerber files are now handled without error.
Performance improvements of 10x to 100x are well documented
for acid trap detection, soldermask sliver detection, and others.
The elimination of raster processing improves DFF audit accuracy
by up to 50x.
  • Content rich update path
The CAM350 V7.6 update promises to deliver a content rich update for existing users of CAM350** with a valid DownStream maintenance contract. Features such as the panel editor, quoting agent, Manufacturing Rules Check agent, DRC, NC Editor, scripting language, and reverse engineering are all part of the V7.65 update program.
**Refer to V7.6 update matrix for actual configuration update content
  • Customizable Configurations
V7.6 also allows customers to mix and match fabrication and PCB design technology into a customized solution based on their individual financial and technical requirements. All products are 100% scalable and can be upgraded with newer functionality as needs and financial resources change.
Competition: / CAM350 V7.6 competes with Barco’s U-CAM, Tibor-Darvis' CAMplan-II, and Valor/Frontline’s Genesis2000 in the fabrication market. And competes favorably to Wise’s GerbTool, Graphicode’s GC Prevue, Altium’s CAMTastic, and Valor’s Enterprise in the PCB design market. CAM350 offers a very flexible solution without the need for extensive scripting when compared to the competition.
Barco’s U-CAM is available on both UNIX and Windows NT for $10K to $15K. Tibor-Darvis was exclusively UNIX until about 3 years ago, when they made the transition to NT. Their CAMplan-II product is also priced
at $10K to $15K. Genesis2000 and Enterprise is available as an X-windows shell version for Windows NT, but is primarily sold on UNIX for $25K to 50K+. Wise, Graphicode, and Altium offer Windows only applications.
Licensing: / All existing CAM350 V7.x customers with a DownStream maintenance contract* will be eligible to receive the V7.6 update upon it’s availability.
* Customers who purchased a maintenance contract with Innoveda prior to January 1, 2002 will not be eligible for the update until they renew their maintenance with DownStream. DownStream is running an aggressive promotion to allow customers to renew their maintenance now and at considerable discount in order to receive the update upon it’s availability. Innoveda will not be providing any updates to any customers. Log on to for further details
Price: / USD: $500 to $12,000. Configuration dependent.
