CALSTATE LONG BEACH SPRING 2005, ISSUE #4 VOLUME, 1

From the Men that made it happen…to those who keep it alive!

As we celebrate fifty strong and dedicated years at Long BeachState, I would like to extend a personal thank you to each and every Alumnus that has made a lasting contribution to the strength of Beta-Omicron. This chapter would not be as powerful locally or nationally without each one of you.

I would like to express special thanks to John “The Godfather” Merino for helping keep this chapter at the top where it belongs, Nelson Ferris for his dedication not only to our chapter but the Educational Foundation, and Steve Lindholm who organizes our Alumni Golf Tournament every fall without praise. I am proud to say this chapter is just as strong now as it was upon its founding in March of 1955.

Currently, Beta-Omicron is the recent recipient of the President’s Cup; awarded to the best Fraternity at Long BeachState for 2005. The prestigious award is based on merit in the areas of: academics, chapter management, membership development and community involvement. In addition, the chapter was thrilled to receive both a Grand Chapter and Grand Council award from National Headquarters honoring us as one of the top five chapters nationally for large-populated schools.

In recent years, national headquarters has promoted Sigma Pi as being the “New Generation of Leaders” in the Greek world and this chapter has proudly lived up to that expectation. Past Sage Erik Jolliff is the current Student Government Vice President; past Sage Robert Godina is the current InterFraternity Council President; Second Counselor Kory Witt and Matt Dixon both sit on the InterFraternity Council board as well; and I sit as an Associate Justice on the Student Government Judiciary.

I welcome each one of you to stop by the Chapter House at 4121 E. 4th Street to see the great strive we have made to make it the premier fraternity house at Long Beach State. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or comments as we value input from all our preceding brothers. (510) 334-4875 or

THE BETA-OMICRONICLE SPRING 2005, ISSUE #4 VOLUME, 1

As the fall semester came to an end as well as the holiday break, the beginning of an exciting spring semester for Beta-Omicron has commenced here at California State University Long Beach. One of the more important dates that the Chapter is anticipating is Beta Omicron’s 50th anniversary. This event will be a perfect opportunity for brothers of the active chapter and our devoted Alumni to celebrate in the spirit if Sigma Pi at the Westin in downtown Long Beach.

Last semester nine new members were initiated as brothers into our chapter: Ryan Lank, Ross McKee, Carlos Montenegro, Kristian Miranda, Reuben Padilla, Mark Reedy, Sean Schoenhoff,

Brian Troutner, and Ernesto Velasquez. This excellent pledge class

was succeeded in the spring by five quality pledges that we hope to initiate this upcoming May.

There are a few events during the following months that we would like to inform the Alumni about. Much of the reason why we have been around for half a century has been because of your continued and valued support. We would like to extend an invitation to our Alumni to attend the following events: Cal State Long Beach’s Homecoming Celebration at the Pyramid, the Sigma Pi World Series, Initiation Spring 2005 and Bowling Nights at Cal Bowl. For more specific information about these and other events, please contact me at the following email address: .

Our new executive council greatly anticipates the success of Sigma Pi Fraternity International. As a chapter who prides themselves in maintaining tradition, Beta Omicron will approach the upcoming months with the bond of brotherhood in its midst.

Fraternally,

Carlos Montenegro
