Collegiate 4-H Meeting Minutes

April 7th, 2016

WSLR 116, 6:00 p.m.

Call to order and Welcome: Cassie Lehmann,

Pledges:

·  Pledge of Allegiance: Laura Peterson

·  4-H Pledge: Kristin Dill

Treasurer’s Report – Gabrielle Teter,

·  Current Balance: $2690.57

·  Dues are $10 for the semester - if writing a check, make payable to Purdue Collegiate 4-H

o  Dues are required to attend the banquet or go on the achievement trip

New Business:

Spring Fest – Tyler Marker,

·  Spring Fest is April 16th and 17th, if you work one 2 hour shift with 4-H – you get into the banquet free (if you do not work cost is $10 for your meal). All guests are $10.

·  Signups are up front, one for each day and one for both activities.

o  Activities are “Motion Commotion” and goldfish races

o  Let Cassie know if you are interested in signing up for a time slot

Ag Week – Maddie McFadden,

·  Our event is scheduled for Thursday, April 14th from 12 – 3 pm on Memorial Mall!

·  We are needing at least 8 people to sign up to help! The Volunteer Spot is ready and open for signups! You can sign up on the front table or at this link: http://vols.pt/ePoQ15

·  Stations:

o  "Feed me Right" - Allowing participants to "spin" for an animal and then put together containers with various feed stuffs that would be an appropriate ration for that particular animal selected and assigning prize "money".

o  "Know Your Livestock" - A jeopardy type style of game where you can pick a species and a price level and then they answer the question if they get it right then they get the money but if they get it wrong they lose money.

o  "Show Me the Money" - In charge of collecting the money that students earn at the stations and then allowing them to pick a prize based on the financial bracket that they achieved. This is the prize booth that the students will go to at the end!

o  "Shucks I Need Money" - This will involve working with students to shuck kernels of corn into a bucket. You will be in charge of keeping the area clean!

o  "Risky Business" (The Stock Market Might Crash) - Help students try their luck at the stock market! Responsibilities of this station include helping students make “investments”, and distributing the amount of money they won/lost after tossing the die.

o  "The Correct Withdraw" - Roll a colored die to chose an animal, then answer a multiple choice question on a vaccination withdrawal period for said animal. All answers will be on an informative poster at the station if players look hard enough!

o  “Pedal Faster Pete” – Pedal tractor club is in charge of this event.

Achievement Trip – Molly Towns, & Emily Grimm,

·  Achievement Trip Is on Sunday, April 24th! We will leave campus at 12 pm for Turkey Run State Park, cookout around 4 pm and return to campus by 7 pm. Dues paying members must have 2 points to go on trip.

·  Final date to sign up is April 7th (today)!

Murdock Report – Molly Towns, & Kendall Gatewood,

·  Murdock is every Thursday from 2:45 to 4 pm. April 14th is paper flowers and the last Murdock is April 21st with Mini Farmer Olympics!

o  Today they made dream catchers, next week will be paper flower bouquets

o  Contact Molly or Kendall if you are interested in helping

Indiana BoilerMAKER – Cassie Lehmann,

·  We still need people for the 12:30 - 4 pm shift! Saturday, April 9

o  If you signed up and didn’t get an email, please let Cassie know so you can get on the email list for further information

·  No prior science experience necessary! Both shifts will be given lunch.

·  If you are having trouble finding the location, it is titled “ADM” on the Purdue Map

Division 1 Electric Kits Fundraiser!

·  Assembly Tables are set up at the State 4-H office in the basement. Feel free to drop by M-F between 8-5 to work on them. Call 765-494-8435 to make sure the office is open.

·  We will have a work night on April 14th to assemble electric kits. There will be an email sent out next week with the location and more details. This fundraiser is almost over and we have been asked to complete it by summer.

·  We will also have a room set up on campus during finals week to work on electric kits. Feel free to stop by when you can to work on them.

Banquet: April 21st 5:45pm-7:00pm in Nelson Food Science Building Room 1215

·  If you haven’t signed up and plan to attend, please sign up ASAP

·  End of year awards will be given and new officers will be inducted at this event

·  Guests are welcome! ($10 for guests to cover the meal)

·  Dress is business professional (khakis and polos are acceptable as are nice slacks or dresses – no jeans please)

Elections

·  Co-Murdock Director: voting for this position will be held at the beginning of next semester

2016 College of Ag Food Drive

·  Donations of non-perishable items are accepted in AGAD through Friday, April 15

·  Donations will benefit Food Finders Food Bank of Lafayette

Erika – Spring Fest Activity – Motion Commotion demonstration

True Leaders Campaign starts on Saturday, April 10: Use #trueleaders and #Indiana4H to give “shout-out” to youth leaders to help Indiana 4-H reach a goal of 10,000 hashtags. The club will provide a way for people to do this at Spring Fest by having an iPad available to tweet with.

Next Meeting: Thursday, April 21th 5:45pm Nelson Food Science Building 1215 (Next to the Horticulture Building)!

Meeting Dates for 2015-2016

·  Spring Banquet is April 21st from 5:45pm until 7pm in Nelson Food Science 1215! We encourage everyone to attend as we give out end-of-the-year awards!

·  Fall Semester Call Out date will be August 25th!
