Principal’s Report
Continued /
  • School Clubs: There has been an amazing response to clubs this year. We have invited students to suggest clubs they would like to start, and there has been a great response.
  • Teams: There are more school teams running this year than ever before.
  • Reorg:There has been a significant drop ingrade 9 enrollment, resulting in cuts in every grade 9 course. Three teachers were lost in total.
  • Cashless Schools: Schools will be moving to a cashless system in October. Families will be able to set up an account and pay fees online.
  • PL Day: There is a PL day on the Friday before Thanksgiving. Staff will be focused on Health & Safety, the OSSLT Online trial, and Engage Math. Staff is working hard to engage students through targeted work. Progress will be reported to the Ministry.
  • OSSLT: On Thursday, October 20th, all grade 10 students and previously eligible students will participate in the first OSSLT Online trial. Students who pass this test will not have to write in March 2017. Students who are not successful in October, may still write in March. BCSS targets remediation with past eligible students. The results from the on-line test will be very helpful in facilitating this initiative.
  • 50th Anniversary: On Tuesday, October 4th, there will be a big meeting of former students. May 27th, 2017 is the 50th anniversary celebration. The Facebook page, which has been open since spring, has been very active. The main event will be an Open House that includes a reunion of former BCSS staff. There is a Google form on the reunion Facebook page where the community may provide feedback. Parent Council is invited to contribute to the evening.
