Midtown Greenway Coalition

Call for “Family Glow” proposals for the Greenway Glow 2015

Proposals must be received by Noon CST on Tuesday, April 14th

The Midtown Greenway Coalition announces a call for “Family Glow” proposals for the Greenway Glow Arts Festival, to be held June 20th in the Midtown Greenway.

The Coalition previously issued a call for proposals for the larger Greenway Glow Arts Festival, which will be from 8 p.m. – Midnight. That Call included small stipends and will be juried. This call for the Family Glow does not include stipends. If you would like more information about the larger call that did include stipends, please contact .

The Family Glow will be from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. on the same night (June 20th) and will be sub-set/event of the larger Greenway Glow Arts Festival. It will be centralized near the Soo Line Gardens on the Greenway.

There are currently no stipends available for this “Family Glow” call. However, your organization will receive significant visibility and be part of the largest event on the Greenway this summer.

Proposals will be juried, but applicants will likely be selected if they meet the requirements below.

Call for Proposals

We invite you to propose a hands-on project for children, preferably a “make and take” project. (Example: Make a glow-worm out of glow-in-the-dark paint and take it home with you.) Performances for children will also be considered.

While none of the following are strict requirements, they are each important factors we will consider when selecting projects/performances.

  • Artistic content. The proposed work can be serious or funny, spectacular or intimate, but it cannot be an advertisement or for sale at the event.
  • Theme. Why is your project/performance perfect for children and the Glow? Is it illuminated or glowing in some way? (Note: It won’t be dark yet, but we would still love for your project to “glow.”)
  • Participatory. How will your project engage children? Is it hands-on? Make and take?
  • Duration. The Family Glow is from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Does your project take advantage of this duration? If you are performing, will you schedule multiple performances? Will you have at least one performance each hour until 9 p.m.?
  • Accessibility. As a public arts event, there will be a broad audience with a range of arts knowledge from novice to practitioner. How does your proposal account for this range?
  • Feasibility. Installation takes place the same day and de-installation the same night. Make sure your project is feasible and impactful and that we understand how.

Locations

The Family Glow will take place near the Soo Line Gardens on the Greenway, near Harriet Avenue. We reserve the right to place projects/performances where we believe they will fit best, but we will do our best to accommodate your preferences.

Technical Requirements

It is best is if your project does not require power. We discourage the use of generators. If you must use a generator, we require that it be one of the “silent” models.

Other Requirements

This event is taking place in public spaces all projects should be respectful of residents and businesses in the area. Specifically, every project should:

  • Be safe
  • Not include amplified sound (acoustic performances are generally OK)
  • Meet all necessary City laws, ordinances, and codes

In addition, artists must provide their own team of volunteers to be onsite during the entire duration of the project.

Eligibility

Artists and arts organizations from anywhere are eligible to participate, but there is no funding available for travel.
