TheMental Health Services (TheMHS) Conference Adelaide 2018

What is TheMHS?

TheMental Health Services (TheMHS) Conference is an annual conference bringing around 1000 people from across Australia and New Zealand from a diverse range of personal and professional backgrounds including; clinicians, managers, people with lived experience as consumers and/or carers, researchers, educators and policy makers; to share knowledge, ideas and challenge the boundaries of present knowledge and ideas about mental health. TheMHS istheplace to be for networking in the mental health sector.

In 2018 TheMHS is being held in Adelaidefrom 28-31 Augustat the Adelaide Convention Centre.TheMHS Conference Local Organising Committee (made up of a diverse membership from public, private, non-government organisations, lived experience, SA Mental Health Commission and the Mental Health Coalition of SA) is tasked with getting the conference happening. To do this we are seeking input and participation from people with lived experience (consumers and carers/ family/friends) in the Lived Experience Sub-Committee, as well as other opportunities that are identified along the way!

What does the Lived Experience Sub-Committee do?

This Sub-Committee will be involved in organising the content and format of the two concurrent full-day Pre-ConferenceForums with a lived experience focus, held on the day before the main TheMHS Conference. The Sub-Committee will also identifyany other opportunities for lived experience involvement throughout the TheMHS conference and events over the 4 days. There will be up to 10 members, and the Co-Chairs of this sub-committee are also members of the overarching Local TheMHS Organising Committee.

How often does the Lived Experience Sub-Committee meet?

The sub-committee will meet monthly from November 2017, up until the conference in August next year. It is likely, however, that the sub-committee will need to meet more frequently closer to the time of the conference, and there is an expectation members will be available throughout the conference week to help out.
