call for expression of interest for hosting the EES biennial conference 2018

The European Evaluation Society (EES) is calling for expressions of interest for hosting its 2018 Biennial Conference.

The Biennial EES Conference is unique in Europe and, together with the American Evaluation Association Conference, is considered to be one of the most important platforms for discussing policy evaluation issues worldwide. The Conference will bring together evaluators, academics and policy makers to discuss current issues in evaluation theory and practice.

The Conferenceusually takes place at the end of September or beginning of October and lasts for 5 days (Monday through Friday). The Conference anticipates up to 800 delegates. Previous EES Conferences were held in Dublin (2014), Helsinki (2012) and Prague (2010). The 2016 EES Conference will take place in Maastricht. The closing date for submitting the expression of interest is 11.7.2016

The requirements and procedure are specified below.

In order for your application to be considered, the expression of interest document should contain the following information:

  1. Name of the proposed location (city and convention centre).
  2. Information on the selected convention centre:
  • Ability to host up to 1000 delegates
  • Availability of at least 8 rooms for up to 50 delegates
  • Availability of at least 5 rooms for up to 20 delegates
  • Availability of a plenary hall that can accommodate at least 800 delegates
  • Proximity to suitable hotel accommodations with the potential availability of 800 rooms in different price ranges
  • Proximity to an international airport with good connections to all major European destinations and preferablybeyond.
  1. Endorsements of local support (e.g. regional or national government) to the conference and potential for sponsorship.

Please note that EES conferences are organized by the EESAssociation Management Company (AMC)/Core Professional Congress Organizer (PCO) in close cooperation with the EES Board. A local PCO willtherefore not be appointed. However, representatives from the host country for the conference may be entrusted with responsibilities relating to the development of the programme of the conference, fundraising and/or communication.

About the selection process:

The expressions of interest will be reviewed by the EES Boardtogetherwith the Core Professional Congress Organizer. Onlyexpressions of interest received by the closing date of the call will be considered.

Eligible candidates will be shortlisted and further negotiations will follow.

The final choice will be made on the following criteria:

  • Attractiveness, cost and accessibility of the city
  • Existence of a suitable conference venue
  • Conference sponsorship potential
  • Existence of an evaluation group/society in the country/city or a clear intention to establish one
  • Potential for the EES to support the development of quality evaluation practices in the country and region

In the selection of the conference location, the EES will also take into consideration the locations of previous conferences and will strive for a broad coverage of the European continent over time,focusing especially on Southern and Eastern Europe.
