PROCEDURE FOR FAMILY VISITING

In an effort to ensure that your Family Visit is a meaningful and pleasant experience for you and your loved ones, we are providing you with the following information. Please read the following information carefully and thoroughly. Failure to comply with the rules of Family Visiting will result in the termination/cancellation of the scheduled Family Visit, and could result in the forfeiture of all monies and/or food items processed for the Family Visit.

Family Visiting is a privilege earned by the inmate through successful program participation. Every effort will be made to provide a pleasant atmosphere for the family visit. Participation in the Family Visiting program is restricted to immediate family members. Per Title 15 Section 3000, Immediate Family Members are deemed as: Legal spouse, natural parents, step-parents, grandparents, brother or sister, step-brother, or step-sister, foster brother or sister, children, grandchildren of the inmate and the inmate’s legal step-children. All immediate family members MUST BE ESTABLISHED by the Family Visiting Coordinator prior to each visit. Visitors must bring to each Family Visit a Valid State or Federal issued photo identification. (Driver’s license, passport, military id, etc.) and certified marriage licenses, certified minor birth certificates, and any other documents that are needed to establish immediate family members. These documents MUST BE PRESENTED at each family visit.

The Family Visiting apartments consist of two bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and living room. Currently per the State Fire Marshall’s order and space available, the maximum number the unit can accommodate is one (1) inmate and three (3) family members, including children.

Family visitors shall report to Visitor Processing on their scheduled day at 11:00 am. It is the visitor’s responsibility to be on time. If the visitor is going to be later than 11:00 am they must call visiting to let the Family Visitor Coordinator know that they are running late. Visitors who do not report or call to report they are running late will be considered a no-show and the visit will be canceled. Visitors shall adhere to all institutions procedures and departmental regulations while on the institution grounds.

FAMILY VISIT INFORMATION

A.  A confirmation form with the date of the Family Visit will be mailed to the inmate. It is the inmates /visitors responsibility to return the completed confirmation form to the family Visiting Coordinator no later than 7 days prior to the scheduled date of the family visit. Failure to return conformation forms (or confirm via telephone call) within the prescribed time limit will result in cancellation of the scheduled date. Family visits must be canceled no less than 3 days prior to the scheduled visit. Anyone failing to do so, will be considered a no-show. No-shows for a scheduled Family Visit will be subjected to suspension of Family Visiting privileges for six months.

B.  A food order will also be sent out that needs to be filled out by the inmate and sent back with a trust withdrawal with the amount of the food. Please note that per DOM 54020.3316 a minimum of two (2) meals per day per person shall be purchased prior to the commencement of the visit. Funds must be available at least two weeks prior to the scheduled Family Visit. If you have restitution then your family needs to fill out the CDC 1839 Exemption of Family Visiting Funds from Restitution. Please note that it can take up to 30 business days for the exemption form (money order) to be process. If you do not have restitution then your funds will be taken directly from your trust account, once the Family Visiting Coordinator has received your withdrawal. Funds must be available no later than two weeks prior to the family visit. If the funds are not available within two weeks of your family visit, your visit shall be canceled and rescheduled when funds are available.

C.  Any food items not consumed may be taken with the visitor upon leaving the institution. Inmates may not bring any items of food from family visiting into the institution.

D.  Inmates and their visitors using the Family Visiting Units will be expected to perform cleaning functions and leave the unit in a clean and orderly fashion. The unit will be left as you found it. All laundry must be collected and put inside the provided laundry bag. All trash will be placed outside the unit in the provided trash cans. All left over food will be either thrown away or taken out by the visitor. NO FOOD IS ALLOWED TO LEAVE WITH THE INMATE. The dishes will be washed, dried and put back on the shelf. The kitchen counter tops, stove, and microwave will be cleaned. The bathroom, sink, shower, and toilet will be cleaned properly. The floors will be swept and mopped.

E.  Inmates will be responsible for any damage caused to the contents of the unit or the unit itself. Each inmate shall be subject to disciplinary action for any damage or willful neglect of the Family Visiting Unit and its furnishing, Inmates and/or their visitor(s) may be excluded from the Family Visiting program for neglect and/or abuse of the Family Visiting Unit. If there is something broken and is in need of repair please let the Family Visiting Coordinator know so that they can make sure it is repaired.

Authorized Items for Inmates:

On the day of your scheduled Family Visit do NOT report to work, school, yard etc. You will be called for your Family Visit between 0730 and 0830. Please be ready with your belongings, so when you are released you can report straight to the Visiting room. Any willingly, knowingly and intentional delays in the checking in process due to inmates fault may result in the scheduled Family Visit to be canceled.

Once in Visiting you will be searched and submit to a mandatory UA. Please note at the beginning and end of all Family Visits, all Inmates participating in the Family Visit program are required to submit to a urine sample, refusing to submit to a UA will terminate your Family Visiting and will affect your future participation in Family Visiting.

The below authorized items for inmates is a general guideline, certain acceptations will be granted for certain items to be brought into the family visiting room. If there is an item (ex. TV antenna, homework etc.) that you would like to bring into the family visiting room please let the family visiting coordinator know so that those items can be preapproved.

Inmates may take the following items on their visit: one (1) complete set of state issued blues (shirt, pants, belt, socks and shoes), which he will be wearing; one (1) state issued jacket, if needed; two (2) pairs of state issued shorts or sweatpants; three (3) pairs of boxers; two (2) state issued T-shirts; one (1) pair of prescription eye glasses; one (1) wedding band; one (1)religious medallion; two (2)handkerchiefs; one (1) pair of shower shows. Toiletries such as toothbrush, deodorant, comb etc. are allowed to be brought to the Family Visit Room. All items brought into the Family Visiting Units by inmates will be inspected and inventoried. Inmates may not bring any items into the institution from their family visit, other than those items listed above. No Items brought in by your Visitor will be allowed to be taken back to your housing unit.

If there is any questions regarding your scheduled Family Visit please submit a CDCR 22 to the Family Visiting Coordinator.

Authorized Items for Visitors

All items that are brought in by the visitors WILL BE searched by Visiting Staff. Items may not be permitted based on the necessity of the item and/ or the safety and security of the institution. NO items will be brought in and given to the inmate to take back to his cell, once the Family Visit is over.

The following is a list of items that will be allowed into the Family Visiting Unit with the visitor. Due to the variety of items brought by families, this list cannot be totally inclusive of all items allowed onto prison grounds. This is a general guideline for the visitor to use. The final decision on any item will be left to the discretion of the officer who is processing your Family Visit.

Limit of one (1) bag of clothing/cosmetics per visitors. NO suitcases will be allowed. Clothing must be in paper, plastic or soft canvas bags (no wheels) no larger than 48” x 24” and containing a minimal number of compartments and zippers.

When checking into/and leaving your Family Visit, your attire must be regular Visitor Basic Dress Standards as you would when you come in for a regular visit. Please limit the clothing that you bring to your Family Visit to what you would need for 2 ½ days. Other than no green, blue or camouflage there is no restrictions (within reason) on the type of clothes that you bring into your Family Visiting.

The following is a list of cosmetics, personal hygiene and other items that can be brought into your Family Visit. None of the items are allowed to contain alcohol of any kind and if a personal care item cannot be identified by the staff it shall not be brought in.

·  10 Commercially Sealed Condoms

·  Only life sustaining Medication and/or prescribe birth control with a doctor’s note is allowed. Only the amount of medication that is needed for the weekend is allowed.

·  1 shampoo and Conditioner (prefer travel size or clear bottle)

·  Face wash

·  Deodorant (as needed per visitor)

·  Toothbrush (1 per Visitor)

·  1 Toothpaste and/ or mouth wash (1 each)

·  1 Body lotion – no oils

·  1 hair brush and/or comb (per visitor)

·  1 Hair gel

·  1 Hair spray (pump only – No Aerosol )

·  1 Body soap/bar per visitor

·  2 Perfume/After Shave (No Aerosol)

·  1 Washcloths per Visitor (no white)

·  2 Hand towels (no white)

·  1 Bath towel per Visitor (no white)

·  Disposable Female Hygiene Products if needed in factory sealed package only

·  One (1) of each of the following:

Lipstick, mascara, blush, cover-up, foundation, eye pencil, eye shadow. (No mirrors – no metal or glass containers)

·  Disposable Diapers must be in sealed package ONLY (No opened packages or individual diapers)

·  Baby wipes must be in factory sealed packages

·  Baby Food items must be factory sealed packages (no glass containers)

·  Baby Formula must be new, unopened powered.

·  Children’s toys – plastic only, no metal or stuffed– LIMITED REASONABLE NUMBER OF TOYS

·  Deck of playing cards (NO poker cards)

·  Limit of 2 games - No dice or play money

·  4 DVD’S (preferable from Red Box-No burned CD’s) PG 13 is the highest rating and all DVDs must have the title on the DVD.

·  Children’s Homework

DISALLOWED ITEMS

Visitors are not authorized to possess the following items while participating in the family visiting program. Sanctions restricting or denying visiting may be imposed for a violation of regulations regarding unauthorized property based on the severity of the violation, consistent with C.C.R 3171 ( c ) ( 9)

·  No Narcotics or sedatives of any type

·  No Cigarettes, lighters, tobacco, etc.…

·  No Alcoholic beverages of any kind

·  No Money

·  No Keys. (We will keep your car keys in Visitor processing in a secured place.)

·  No Nail polish, polish remover, nail files or clippers, tweezers, false eyelashes, glue, etc.

·  No Shaving razors, leg wax

·  No Aerosol, glass or metal containers of any kind

·  Any item/substance that contain alcohol i.e. mouthwash, perfume, hairspray etc.

·  No Hair care appliances, such as curling irons, hair dryers, electric or battery powered toothbrushes. Any item that is powered by electricity or batteries

·  No cameras, cell phones, video games or any other electric devices or devices that run off batteries

·  No over the counter medication.

·  No douches of any kind

·  Any type of personal lubricant i.e. baby oil, body oil, KY, etc. Even with a doctor’s note these items are not permitted.

·  No Clothing or gifts for the inmate. No item(s) can be brought in to give to your inmate. If an item is brought in and the inmate has possession of it at the end of the Family Visit it will be confiscated and your family visit can/will be suspended for up to six months. Every approved item that you bring in must be brought out with you.
