California Community College Admissions Checklist

¨  Get a separate and PROFESSIONAL email address.

¨  GET ORGANIZED! Have a separate folder for all college-related documents.

¨  Get an estimate of your financial aid package, visit FAFSA4caster (fafsa.ed.gov/FAFSA/app/f4cForm?excecution=e3s1)

¨  Are you college ready? If you took the English EAP writing sample and a Math CST; Alg. 2 or above; check your results (http://www.csuenglishsuccess.org/eap_results)

¨  Begin completing and submitting admissions application to the one school you will attend by April 1st . Santa Monica City College application opens in December. There is no need to submit an application to more than one community college. You will be accepted as long as you are 18 and over and/or a high school graduate. Some schools open their application in May. Check with each school as to when it will accept applications for the fall.

¨  Our CEEB School Code is: 051520

¨  Apply to EOP&S at the school to which you will attend. If accepted to EOP&S, it provides counseling, academic support services, and sometimes extra $ for books. Do this immediately after being accepted in person at the EOP&S office.

¨  The district submits your Cal Grant GPA verification to the California Student Aid Commission.

¨  Open FAFSA application (fafsa.ed.gov) after January 1st. Complete your FAFSA by March 2nd! Email your confirmation number to your email account.

¨  AB 540 students (students that have no Social Security number) go to the California Dream Act Application (dream.csac.ca.gov/) fill it in before March 2

¨  A few weeks after submitting the FAFSA, set up an account (mygrantinfo.csac.ca.gov) to see your Cal Grant award status

¨  Complete the Board Of Governors’ (BOG) Fee Waiver at the Financial Aid office of your college immediately after submitting your FAFSA

¨  Apply to the school’s available scholarships (if applicable), check college website

¨  Make an appointment to see a counselor at the community college to map out your education plan

¨  If you plan on transferring, visit the transfer center at your campus ASAP and before registering for classes to talk about transferring to the college of your choice

¨  Register for the EARLIEST English and Math placement test dates ASAP after being admitted! Test scores from one school may not be accepted at another.

¨  Review your financial aid award letter

¨  Register for classes at your online appointment day and time…DO NOT WAIT!!!

¨  Register early for the earliest Orientation date possible (if applicable), some orientations are done online.

¨  If you are planning on transferring, make sure your Cal Grant is put on hold until you transfer. Talk to the financial aid if it is not on hold. Do not use it while in community college. You will want to keep your four years of eligibility for when you are transferred to the four-year institution of your choice.

¨  Be prepared to provide proof of graduation from high school

¨  Requested a final official transcript with Geri Valles in room 124 to be sent the college

¨  Are you AB 540? Pick up a residency declaration form to submit to the admissions office. Without it, you will be charged out of state tuition!

¨  DON’T MISS YOUR DEADLINES NOR GET Ds OR Fs!!! GET COLLEGE READY THIS YEAR!!!
