Hurd, Wheeler Named PLTW Teachers of the Year
Congratulations to Chris Hurd and Kelly Wheeler for being named PLTW Teachers of the Year for Engineering and Launch, respectively! Hurd, who teaches at Cazenovia High School in New York, has served as a Master Teacher for Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) at Cal Poly Pomona for the past few summers. Wheeler, who teaches at Santa Rosa Academy in California, will serve as a Launch Master Teacher at Cal Poly Pomona this summer. Both, along with several other teachers, received their prestigious awards at the 2016 PLTW National Summit. Click on the following link to read more about this recognition:
Washington Middle School’s Water Guardians Recognized by State of California Legislature
Congratulations to Washington Middle School’s Water Guardians for recently being recognized on the floors of the State of California Senate and Assembly for their tireless work on water conservation! The Water Guardians have devoted their efforts to seeking out various ways to reduce water usage at their school and in their community. Washington Middle School, a PLTW school in La Habra, CA, partners with Cal Poly Pomona’s College of Engineering in various STEM outreach programs, including the Water Guardians, Femineers, and E-Girl. Cal Poly Pomona PLTW and WE Visit Maple Hill Elementary School
Cal Poly Pomona PLTW and WE (Women in Engineering) student assistants recently visited Maple Hill Elementary School, a PLTW school, in Diamond Bar, CA for a STEM day with over 200 fourth and fifth graders. During the visit, the Cal Poly Pomona students had the opportunity to talk about STEM and how it relates to everyday life, as well as to engage the elementary students in an engineering activity. Femineer Summit 2016
The first annual Cal Poly Pomona College of Engineering Femineer (CPP CoE Femineer) Summit will be held on Monday, May 2, 2016from 8:00 am – 3:00 pmat the Cal Poly Pomona Bronco Student Center. The purpose of the summit is to provide an opportunity for all K-12 participants of the CPP CoE Femineer Program to present their finished robotics products in a project showcase. Additionally, the summit will give Femineer participants the opportunity to meet female STEM professionals, to be exposed to STEM industry and career options, to attend breakout sessions, and to interact with other girls with similar interests.

PLTW CA Student Scholar Medallions & Certificates
PLTW California will be offering PLTW CA Student Scholar Medallions and Certificates to graduating PLTW high school seniors who have completed 3 or more PLTW high school courses with a B or better in either the PLTW Engineering or Biomedical Science programs. There is no charge for the medallions and certificates. However, medallions and certificates will be given out on a first come, first serve basis due to limited availability. Requests for medallions and certificates for your students can be made by sending an Excel spreadsheet withthe following information to :
- List of students’ names
- PLTW courses each student has completed with a B or better
- Students’ email addresses
- Your school’s mailing address
- Your school’s graduation ceremony date
