CAET Job Posting: CAET Academy Chair

The CAET Board of Directors is looking for an Enterostomal Therapy Nurse leader for the position of the CAET Academy Chair.

They are searching for a visionary self starter with a proven track record in leading educational initiatives/projects, who has the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders. Through the development andimplementation of a strategic plan, this individual will make a significant impact on education in the field of specialized wound, ostomy and continence care and the development of the future generation of Enterostomal Therapy Nurses.

Position: CAET Academy Chair– Part-time contract position (30 hours per week, 48 weeks per year) to lead all CAET Education programs.

Term: 3-year renewable contract

Accountable to: The CAET President and CAET Board of Directors

Reports to: The CAET Executive Director

The Canadian Association for Enterostomal Therapy (CAET)

is a not-for-profit association and registered charity for over 350 registered nurses across Canada specializing in the tri-specialty nursing care of patients with challenges in wound, ostomy and continence. The CAET acts in the public interest for Canadian Enterostomal Therapy Nurses to provide national leadership in specialized wound, ostomy and continence nursing promoting high standards for ET nursing practice, education, research and administration to achieve quality specialized nursing care.

The CAET owns and operates the CAET Academy which provides the ETNEP Distance Education program, and continuing education through the Knowledge to Practice ( K2P) programs.

Responsible for leading:

The continued development and management of all CAET Education Programs including the CAET ETNEP Program, and continuing education programs for Enterostomal Therapy Nurses and allied healthcare professional through the Knowledge to Practice Programs (K2P), CAET National Conference Planning Education program and additional education programs such as the CAET Webinar series, the CAET Journal Club. Will lead the future development of Canadian Nurses Association (C.N.A.) certification in Enterostomal Therapy Nursing - CETN (C) in collaboration with the C.N.A.

Summary of Position Description

The CAET Academy Chair will be responsible for the following portfolios:

Program Development

Develop and implement a strategic plan in conjunction with the CAET Board and key faculty members to support the development of the ETNEP and K2P Programs congruent with the overall Mission, Vision and Values and strategic plan of the CAET. New opportunities for distance learning provision need to be identified. Move the CAET Academy from foundational to an expanded academic program. Build on the webinar series and Journal Club.

Develop the CAET Academy Infrastructure:

Continue to develop the ETNEP’s infrastructure, which includes the student administration system and course design and production.

Human Resources Management

Build the Academic Faculty:

  • Recruit and establish contracts with CAET Academy Faculty and monitor Academic Advisors;
  • Facilitate measures to ensure that Academic Advisors are optimally trained in the use of electronic resources and processes for an online education system;
  • Work collaboratively with the CAET Academy Professional Assistant.

Policy Development

Setting clear policies for the administration of all CAET education programs.

Financial Management

Develop the CAET ETNEP Program’s financial portfolio to ensure delivery of a significant and sustainable financial position for the ongoing promotion of state of the art distance learning activities for specialized wound, ostomy and continence nursing education in Canada. Support the day to day financial approvals/administration required.

Communications/Marketing

Disseminate ETNEP developments to the CAET membership through the CAET Academy website, the CAET Link and to the Academic Advisors.

Quality Monitoring & Improvement:

Develop outcome measures that will effectively identify the successes, opportunities, aspirations and results of the ETNEP. Establish, monitor & report on quality improvement benchmarks to the CAET Board of Directors.

Build Coalitions:

Identify future partners including Universities who will support the growth and development of the CAET Academy programs and build meaningful relationships. Maintain and grow existing CAET Academy partnerships such as the Canadian Nurses Association.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a WCET recognized Enterostomal Therapy Nursing/ Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Program
  • Masters degree in a related field
  • PhD in related subject area is an asset
  • Certification in Enterostomal Therapy Nursing with the Canadian Nurses Association - CETN (C)
  • Current Registered Nurse license
  • 5 years participation in / leadership in distance education, educational program development and/or management
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles, delivery systems and applications of a distance education program
  • Evidence of formal preparation in education in adult learning or the equivalent
  • Demonstrated understanding of the unique educational needs of Enterostomal Therapy nurses in Canada
  • Strong marketing and administrative/business skills/tech savvy-proficient with standard computer programs and social media
  • Experience working collaboratively and diplomatically with a diverse set of partners within the CAET and externally (e.g. C.N.A)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in a team environment working through in a virtual system
  • Experience working with foundations, government and non-government organizations
  • Experience in processes and application for external funding related to education
  • Bilingualism/working knowledge of French is an asset
