CAD/CAM Design Task 6 – 2-Axis Linear Guide Assembly
Purpose: This exercise is meant to reinforce the use of assemblies in solidworks. This exercise also introduces the student to the use of engineering product literature and how it can be used to design a somewhat complex mechanical mechanism.
Due Date:10/18/2011
Instructions: Produce one Solidworks design of a continuously-supportedrail system that is designed to allow translation in two directions (2-D translation table).Design a scheme for combining two linear stages to allow 2-axis motion. Design a system that can be bolted to a flat tabletop. Use the task requirement steps for guidance in completing this task. Demonstrate your completed assembly to the instructor in class for grading purposes. Turn in a report that contains all documentation necessary for a technician to purchase the correct parts and assemble the translation table. If you have questions at any time during this process, please ask the instructor.
Information for this task is located in DesignTask5Information.pdf file, located on the ME 202 website.
Task Requirements
- You will receive all necessary engineering information.
- You are to use this engineering design information to produce the Part, Assembly, and Drawing files as needed for this task.
- You will download one Pillow Block part file.
- You will download one Rail part file.
- You will make whatever other hardware is required to build a functioning 2-axis translation stage that can be bolted to a simple table.
- You will make one simple “table” part file.
- Create one ‘Linear Guide Assembly’ by inserting these files into your assembly.
- Build an exploded view.
- You must assemble an information packet which can be given to a technician, who will then purchase the parts and assemble the translation stage.
- Build simple bolt and screw models for the assembly, as well as all necessary bolt holes and attachment points. Specify attachment hardware.
- If you have any questions/concerns/etc, please feel free to ask the instructor for assistance.
