CACCN – NS Meeting Minutes for November 24, 2016 from 1100-1200 hours

Present at the meeting:

Amber Eason (president), Robin Fraser (treasurer), Kara Evers (secretary)

  1. ICU Liaisons:

-As previously discussed, the CACCN NS Chapter would like to initiate liaisons in each of the province’s ICUs to use as contacts for promoting events, education opportunities and increasing membership

-We have secured a liaison for Cape Breton (Michelle Nash) and for 3A in Halifax (Andrew Watson)

-Kara will reach out to classmates from the CCNP to secure other potential candidates

  1. Coming to an ICU Near You:

-Continued discussion about touring the province’s ICUs to promote CACCN and increase membership.

-We would also like to use this as an opportunity to secure ICU liaisons, promote upcoming education events, and get feedback on our planned exam prep series

-Amber and Kara are trying to coordinate a trip to Truro and/or Amherst in December

  1. Exam Prep Series

-The executives are working with our 3A liaison to coordinate a series of study aids to help nurses prepare for the CAN Exam.

-There will be a meeting of CACCN executives with critical care educators to set up online study material through the CACCN website

-CACCN executives will also approach specialty area nurse to provide education sessions

-There will be a meeting in January to decide on a strategy for how best to present this material to our members

  1. New Year’s Educational Event:

-The NS Chapter will be hosting our first educational event of 2017 on January 26th from 4-7pm at the Delta Barrington Hotel (Sackville Room)

-This will be a 3 hour education session worth 10 NSNU Education points

-The cost will be $80 (for members and non-members) and will include a three-course catered dinner and three guest speakers

-The National Board Education Fund will contribute $300.00 toward the event and there will be swag-bags provided

-Robin has been asked to create a list of sponsors that we can approach for future events

-Kara will advertise this event on our Facebook page as well as our newly edited CACCN NS Chapter website page

-Nurses can apply for education time/funding through their unit managers

-The event will require early registration so that gusts can make their meal choices

-There will also be special hotel rates for anyone wishing to take advantage of a night in Halifax

  1. Housekeeping:

-Amber will contact VP Ashley to get account signing priviledges changed over to allow Robin access to our account

-Amber will be posting a tentative list of NS Chapter goals for the year on the executives FB group for approval

-Amber brought up the suggestion of purchasing a CACCN NS Chapter laptop that can be used for storing chapter information, education sessions, and presentations. This could then be passed down to each consecutive CACCN president.

-We will consult VP Ashley on this idea

-The next meeting will be held on December 5th at 1100hrs
