Upcoming events:

1.  The next membership meeting is scheduled for 10/11/16 at the Glacier Brew House.

2.  Save the date: November 8, 2016. That’s the day we will present a morning and afternoon seminar for contributing contractors, conducted by Kathrin Crosby from C-2 Consulting and MCAA. In the morning: “The Profitability of Safety” and in the afternoon: “Moving Forward when the Economy is Holding You Back.”. In the evening we will have a members and associates dinner. Invitations went out last week and I need names, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of participants.

National news:

MCAA news

1.  The next major event is the National M.S.C.A. conference on October 24 -27 at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess in Scottsdale AZ. Information on the MCAA website and in our office.

2.  MCAA is working on the 2016 Collective Bargaining Seminar program. They are planning to add a session on: Planning Long Term Bargaining Approaches featuring Lessons Learned from Bargaining Teams; November 2-4, in Washington D.C.

3.  The UA and MCAA issued a joint statement of support for Congressional Action This Year on Composite Pension Plans and solicit your support for this issue.

4.  The Industry Funds Conference will be November 30-December 2 at Longboat Key Club, Longboat Key FL.

SMACNA news

1.  The National SMACNA convention is October 10-19 in Phoenix AZ. SMACNA’s president calls it: “An unbeatable opportunity to learn from others.

2.  The Safety Survey results show the lowest incidence rates ever. The OSHA incidence rate for all participants was 2.41, the lowest ever reported and the Experience Modification Rate was .78, the lowest in the last decade and the use of SMACNA safety procedure manuals was 87%.

3.  The new SMACNA manual is the Residential Retrofit and Service Operations Management Program. It provides the latest information on sales, marketing and financial strategies to operate profitable residential/small commercial HVAC service and retrofit departments.

1.  The International Foundation for Employee Benefit Plans Conference is November 13-16 in Orlando FL.

2.  On Tuesday 10/11/2016 representative Don Young will be at Mechanical Contractors of Fairbanks at 1.30 P.M. Contact Karl Gohlke for more information and to r.s.v.p..

3.  The 2016 Alaska State Chamber of Commerce Forum will be held in Kenai on October 11-13. The theme is: “Illuminating the path forward”

4.  The next IAPMO Anchorage chapter meeting is 10/18/2016.

5.  The next ASHRAE meeting is 10/20/2016.

6.  SkillPath presents “Business Writing and Grammar Skills Made easy and Fun on October 11 and “How to Excel at Managing and Supervising People” on October 19-20, both at the Coast International Inn.

7.  The 9th Alaska Construction Law Conference by the Seminar Group is scheduled for November 8 at the William A. Egan Civic and Convention Center. Information at www.TheSeminarGroup.net

8.  The Labor Arbitration Institute will conduct the 18th Labor Law and Labor Arbitration Seminar on February 12-14, 2017 in Miami Beach FL.
