Bye Bye Birdie Callbacks
- Realize that it’s an honor to be called back for a role, but only one person will get it.
- Not everyone called back will get one of the lead roles.
- Callbacks can be a little stressful and/or disappointing if you don’t do as well as you’d like, or you don’t get the role you want. Please let Mr. S. know if you think this is too much for you to handle.
- If there is a role you do NOT want to play, including ensemble, please let Mr. S. know ASAP (unless you have already stated so on your audition sheet).
- If you indicated that you wanted only certain lead roles, and you do not get one of them, we obviously would not put you in the show.
- It is possible for someone not called back to get one of the larger roles.
- You are not guaranteed a lead role just because you had one in a past show…every show is different, and has different needs.
- We may cast someone in a role for which they were not called back.
- See Mr. Szczepanski or Ms. Miller for advice!
- The more prepared you are, the better your chances. If you can memorize the song(s), that would be helpful. At the very least you should become very comfortable with the song(s). We want to see you become the character as much as possible.
- You should be prepared to sing the song(s) you are given. Please check the Musical page on the SMS website for Youtube links to practice.
- We will also use the same scenes from auditions. Extra copies are available on the musical webpage. You should become very comfortable with the scenes, but we don’t expect you to memorize them. We also may have additional scenes to read at callbacks.
- You should also be prepared to dance the audition dance.
- Callbacks are Thursday, October 19, immediately after school in the auditorium from 2:15 pm until we finish (hopefully no later than 5:00 pm).
- Out of respect for the actors and directors, we ask that only actors called back be present in the auditorium during callbacks. No friends or family, please.
- Break a leg!!!!
**A rough draft of the schedule is posted on the Musical link at the SMS homepage so you can get an idea of the time commitment. Obviously, the larger the role, the larger the time commitment.
