NO. R-474. SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE ROHRIG TWINS, COURTNEY AND BOBBY, ON SCORING THEIR 1,000 POINTS FOR THE GIRLS' AND BOYS' BLACK RIVER HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL TEAMS.

Whereas, for twin siblings to excel in the same sport is a notable accomplishment, but for a twin brother and sister to reach the 1,000-point milestone as interscholastic basketball players in the same week is a highly unlikely occurrence, and
Whereas, the Rohrig twins, Courtney and Bobby, juniors at Black River High School in Ludlow, each scored their 1,000th high school career basketball point during the final week of January 2008, and
Whereas, on Monday, January 28,2008, the Black River High School Lady Presidents traveled east to Chester to play Green Mountain Union High School, and, with just seven points separating Courtney from her 1,000-point objective, she was optimistic this night would be the special one to achieve her personal goal, and
Whereas, despite the powerful Green Mountain defense that limited the Lady Presidents to only 29 points all evening, Courtney nonetheless persevered, and at 4:41 in the fourth quarter she succeeded with an underneath-the-basket shot, scoring her magical 1,000th point, and
Whereas, play was halted as her family and team gathered on the court, and the Black River High School athletic director, Patrick Pullinen, handed Courtney Rohrig the game ball as a memento of the occasion, and
Whereas, on Thursday, January 31, the Black River High School boys’ basketball team played at home against Poultney High School, and the local fans not only saw the Presidents win 56–52, but they also witnessed a special moment for Bobby Rohrig, and
Whereas,with 2:03 remaining in the first half, Bobby Rohrig recovered the ball from an offensive rebound, and, despite the crowd of players immediately adjacent to the basket, he aimed the ball accurately, sending it through the hoop for his 1,000th point, and
Whereas, Bruce Stryhas, who in 1962 became the first Black River High School basketball player to score 1,000 career points, presented Bobby Rohrig the game ball in a memorable on-court ceremony similar to the one that had honored his sister, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates Courtney and Bobby Rohrig on each scoring their 1,000th career basketball point for Black RiverHigh School, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Courtney and Bobby Rohrig, to their respective coaches, Lou Seir and Don Phelps, and to Black River High School Athletic Director Patrick Pullinen.
