Marketing Tip of the Week

Develop and promote pride in your school. Save a few minutes in each staff meeting, PTA meeting, CSC meeting, or other gatherings and ask teachers to relate positive student experiences and accomplishments. Read some solid writing samples or tell a few stories about positive student interactions. Save room in your newsletter to relate individual student success and start creating a buzz about successful student achievement.

Risk Management

If a student is injured in a school accident, the responsibility for any resulting medical bills or ambulance bills lies with the parents or guardians of the injured student. The district does not have accidental injury insurance for students. The district makes an accidental injury insurance plan available at the beginning of the school year. This plan is voluntary and is purchased by the parents. One premium covers the entire school year. The plan is also available during the school year, but the premium is not prorated for later enrollment. Children that are part of a standard family health plan do not need this program. If you need more enrollment packages for your school, please call Karen Bright at 303-764-3613.

For information about reporting student accidents, go to the Risk Management Web site at At the Risk Management home page, click on “Do you want to report and injury?” and follow theprompts.

Interdepartmental Communication

To:Principals

From:John Leslie, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services

Date:October 24, 2003

Subject:Information for Parents and Students Brochure and Policy Guide for Parents and Students

The distribution of the Information for Parents brochure and Policy Guide for Parents and Students is changing this year. The Information for Parents and Students brochure will no longer be available from the warehouse. The Policy Guide for Parents and Students will no longer be distributed to each student.

Each school will receive two CDs that contain both the Information for Parents and Students and the Policy Guide for Parents and Students. Both documents will be in English and Spanish.

Each school will receive a limited number of hard copies for each publication and a master copy of the Information for Parents and Students document for schools to make their own copies, if necessary. Schools may distribute hard copies at their discretion, for example, to new students or students with discipline issues.

Schools can also contact DigiPro if they would like more copies of either document.
This is not required and, thus, would be at the school’s own expense.

Both documents will be available on the DPS Web site at for staff and parents/guardians to access. If computers are not available for some parents/guardians, they can access the information at the school using the CDs or at a local library using the DPS Web site.

Schools need to provide parents/guardians and students the information in the following notice regarding access to these documents, which could be done in a school newsletter or elsewhere.
