6th Grade Glimpse

**MAP TESTING THIS WEEK**

6th Grade Reading: Reading logs are due on April 28th and students will receive their last reading log of the year this week, which is due on May 12th. All 6th grade classes meet on Blue day and we will visit the library every Blue Wednesday, in order to take AR tests and check out/renew books. 6thGrade MathStudents will continue studying Geometry next week by learning how to find area of triangles and volume of prisms.

Communication Arts: Spelling Lesson 12 will begin this week for Gold classes. Dates and times will vary due to MAP testing but students will be given plenty of notice. This is the last spelling lesson of the year for Gold classes. We will also begin the conjunctions unit and will work on editing. All homework assignments that receive a grade below a C may be redone for half credit. Assignments must be asked for that day and are due the next class time. Encourage your student to take advantage of this opportunity if needed.

6th Grade Social Studies: This week we will be MAP testing, so we will be reviewing topics covered since the beginning of the year. If you have any questions my email is . My plan time is 9:28 to 10:52 on both Gold and Blue Days.

RISE-In our Extempore’ curriculum next week we will be practicing AHA challenges along with learning about life after the Renaissance. Some of these topics include tourism, the Venetian Carnival, the unification movement, Fascism, and “turnover style” leadership. We will also begin learning about the geography of Italy.

Band:Summer school is just around the corner, and we are still in need of more students to enroll for the classes to fill. If you are interested, please contact me quickly so that we can get your student registered for the course! Also, our Spring Concert will be held at 7:00pm on Tuesday, May 10th. Students should wear nice black shoes, nice black pants, and their long sleeved blue music t-shirt. If you need help obtaining any of these items, please contact me!

Vocal:Students are preparing for the Middle School Spring Choir Concert. It will be held on Thursday, May 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the East Gym. Students should plan to wear black pants, black shoes, and the blue music shirt. Students have also been reviewing basic music symbols. Students should be able to identify sixteenth, eighth, quarter, half, and whole notes as well as basic dynamic

EXPO Art:This class will complete their surface designs on their masks and construct stands to display them on. After those are completed they will write their artist statements to go with their masks.

Rhonda Plan: G 5 (1:36PM to 3:00PM) & B4 (11:40 to 1:32)

FACS: The students are learning to cook and proper kitchen safety. They will be MAP testing this week but will jump right into cooking the first class they have.

6th Grade Keyboarding: Mrs. Sellman: S.W.B.A.T. - Identify and accurately key: apostrophe, quotation marks, tab, colon, P,X,Y,Z. Lessons 1.11-1.15 will be due by May 13. 6th Physical & Health: Next week students in both classes will continue their Dodgeball unit. We have finished our last packet of health notes for the school year. Students will take their last test over these notes and have their last notebook check. If they have lost their packet, they will need to copy them from someone else. Remind students to bring clothes to dress out and to bring tennis shoes and socks if they are wearing sandels to school. 6th Grade Health Enrichment: Students will finish chapter 14, with the last section covering refusal skills. Counselor: As we gear up for our last month of school, students and staff are ready to tackle the MAP test starting Monday, April 25th. It is important that every effort be made for student attendance during the testing sessions. In order to help your child perform to the best of his/her ability, students should get at least 8-9 hours of sleep a night and eat a well-balanced breakfast. Students who have appropriate behavior and are in attendance for all testing sessions are eligible for reward activities at the end of our testing week.
