Course Description

Business Information & Technology I is an introductory course, which emphasizes the technology used in the business world today. The focus of this course is on computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, multimedia presentations, electronic communications and how they are used in the business world. These computer applications will be utilized as students apply their technology skills to enhance their communications, problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, writing, work habits, career planning and employability skills

Students who wish to explore careers in Business Management Marketing Technology may wish to consider the following possibilities: Office Assistant, Administrative Assistant, Medical Assistant, Legal Secretary, Executive Assistant, Office Manager, Information Assistant, Customer Service Assistant, Data Entry Specialist, Receptionist, Court Reporter, Stenographer, Shipping and Receiving Personnel, Records Processing, Library Assistant, Word Processor, Medical Transcriptionist, and Paralegal.

Course Schedule

Assignments are posted weekly at the teacher’s web site. Students will be expected to check the web site regularly for an updated assignment schedule.

Homework. Homework is due at the beginning of the hour for hand-written assignments. Electronic assignment deadlines will be posted on the teacher’s web site. Life is full of deadlines. Students will be expected to meet deadlines as college students, employees, and citizens. High school is the time for students to learn the importance of submitting work on time.

Excused Absences and Makeup Work. The student will be responsible for obtaining the assignments for the work missed when absent. The student will be given two days for every EXCUSED absence to makeup work. After that, work will not be accepted. Makeup work must be completed on the student's own time, before school, during lunch, or after school. Class time will not be given for makeup work.

Unexcused Absences. School policy states that "any work missed during an unexcused absence will not be accepted for credit" (page 19, handbook). The handbook defines what is considered an excused or unexcused absence. For students to earn credit for makeup assignments, the absence must be excused by the parent calling the attendance office at 246-3010 within 24 hours of the absence.
