Business Motivation Model (BMM)

The purpose of this note is to give some background on OMG's Business Motivation Model (BMM) for use in the HSSP SFM refresh sub project. This note is divided into 5 parts.

1.  a high level definition,

2.  a link to a 2-page summary of BMM,

3.  a link to a short article on how BMM applies to SoaML and by extension to HSSP SSF

4.  a link to the OMG spec itself,

5.  and a link to a web site that talks about the standard from a business rule perspective.

1.  What follows is a brief definition of the OMG's Business Motivation Model (BMM) copied from Wikipedia:

The Business Motivation Model (BMM) in enterprise architecture provides a scheme and structure for developing, communicating, and managing business plans in an organized manner. Specifically, the Business Motivation Model does all of the following:

·  identifies factors that motivate the establishing of business plans;

·  identifies and defines the elements of business plans; and

·  indicates how all these factors and elements inter-relate.

Among these elements are those that provide governance for and guidance to the business — Business Policies and Business Rules.
