  1. Introduction – Business English

This class is designed for students to meet the standards set by the state of Texas for Business English. You will be working to understand effective ways of communication within the workplace. You will also learn the soft-skills and speaking skills that are necessary for future progress.

1st nine weeks – Communicating for Success

2nd nine weeks – Listening and Reading for Successful Communication

Writing for Successful Communication

3rd nine weeks – Writing for Successful Business Purposes

4th nine weeks – Speaking for Successful Communication

  1. Grading

I will be mostly grading in Google Classroom and will give only a few paper assignments. It is imperative for you to keep up with your passwords and login information It will be very important for you to keep up with all of your assignments for this. I will post grades every 9 weeks and will provide you with the necessary information for you to check it. Parents may sign up for Parent Access in the front office and check their child’s grade anytime. If there is a question as to an assignment not being posted, please let me know and I will take care of it as soon as possible. I will be available for tutorials as needed. Please make sure to set up a time if you feel you need an after school tutorial.

MAKE-UP POLICY: YOU are responsible for all missed assignments. All missed daily work is due in accordance to school policy for excused absences. Failure to turn in your work by the allotted due date will result in a zero. Tests need to be made up within two days and must be done before or after school. If you are going to be out, please talk to me and get your assignment early. Notes will be available for you to copy.

LATE WORK: No late work will be accepted. Assignments that are turned in after the work has been taken up will be considered late and will result in a zero.

  1. Discipline - Disrespectful and/or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Offenders will be dealt with immediately and accordingly.

*We will follow the HISD Student Handbook and Code of Conduct, so offenses with specific consequences will follow the Handbook. This includes the specific section regarding plagiarism and the consequences.

  1. Cheating and Plagiarism – Cheating is claiming another person’s work as your own in an intentional form of deception. Cheating will not be tolerated. Any party involved with the dishonest practice of cheating will receive a “0” on the assignment. Plagiarism is a form of cheating or stealing someone else’s work. It will receive the same penalty as any other assignment that was completed dishonestly.

NOTE TO PARENTS:

Your child will work very hard in my class this year. We will be reading grade level material and writing constantly, as well as working on strengthening the skills your child will need in for the future through public speaking and enhancing soft skills. I will have the course syllabus and frequent updates on what is happening in the class – when major assignments are due – on my website through the HISD website. This will also include suggested topics that we are discussing in class that may be interesting for you and your family to extend the learning process at home.
