BUSA INDOOR ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS - EIS SHEFFIELD – 10-11 MARCH 2007

--- Competitor Information ---

REPORTING:

All competitors must report to the marshalling area AT LEAST 10 MINUTES before their event is due to start. The responsibility of being on the mark at the time specified in the programme, after being called by the stewards, lies entirely with the competitor.

In the case of field events competitors will be permitted to enter 30 minutes before the start of the event to report to the Chief Judge for that event, provided the area is available.

SEEDING:

Competitors should note that the lane draw for HEATS (Round 1) is RANDOM and based upon Personal Best information. Thereafter seeding will occur based upon performance in the previous round. Information on the qualification process for each event will be posted on the results board and at registration once the registration deadline has passed.

WITHDRAWALS:

Once an athlete has qualified for a subsequent round of the competition they are not permitted to opt out of that competition and continue to compete in the championships, whether it is on day one or day two. This applies to both the track and field competitions. The track referee can prevent a competitor competing on the track if the competitor has opted out of a field event in which he/she has qualified for a subsequent round. The field referee has the same powers to exclude from a field event an athlete if he/she has opted out of a track event [UKA reg 115(3) and 120(10)].

NUMBERS & COLOURS:

Each competitor must wear a number corresponding with his/her University number in the programme. All competitors, with the exception of High Jump and Pole Vault competitors must wear 2 numbers, one front and one back.

Competitors should compete in their University colours as described in the programme.

OPENING HEIGHTS / QUALIFICATION:

The following starting and qualification heights / distances will be in place:

Starting / Qualification
HJ men / 1m60 / Qual 2m05
HJ women / 1m35 / Qual N/A
PV men / 2m40 / Qual N/A
PV women / 1m90 / Qual N/A
TJ men / Qual 13m40
LJ men / Qual 6m35
LJ Women / Qual 5m40
Shot Putt / No Qual necessary.

RELAY TEAMS:

Teams of 6 athletes must be declared at the usual registration times. Any four athletes from these nominated 6 may run at any stage of the relay championships.

Only 1 team of 6 may be entered by each institution. ‘B’ teams are not permitted.

EQUIPMENT:

Throwing Events - Implements for the throwing events will be provided. Competitors may only use their own implements by arrangement with the Field Referee, to whom they should report not less than one hour before the respective event. All personal equipment must be weighed and measured. Such personal equipment is not available for use by other athletes without the permission of the owner.

Vaulting Poles - will not be supplied for the pole vault.

Starting Blocks - Competitors are only permitted to use the stadium starting blocks.

Spikes - The maximum spike length allowed is 6mm, spot checks may occur. Spiked shoes must not be worn outside of the Athletic Arena.

Numbers - Numbers should not be reduced in size through cutting or folding

WARMING UP:

All warming up must be done away from the track. Athletes should use the long sprint straight at the rear of the hall to warm up

DRUG TESTING:

Drug testing may take place at these Championships.

COMPETITION REGULATIONS:

TRACK EVENTS

In events run in lanes there will be heats, semi-finals if necessary and a final. Events not run in lanes will have only heats and a final. At least the heats of the 800 metres will be run off a curved start and NOT in lanes.

Where declared numbers do not merit heats, the final will be run at the final time unless for specific reasons the organising committee decides otherwise.

FIELD EVENTS

In all field events except High Jump and Pole Vault each competitor shall have three trials with the best eight competitors at the end of the three trials being allowed a further three trials.

In normal circumstances a final event shall take place at the time scheduled for the final unless unanimous support for its rescheduling is agreed by those competing.

Throwing events – UK Athletics directive

In order to avoid accidents, implements must be thrown only from one end and must be returned by hand both during the practice and competition, and NOT thrown back to the starting area. Competitors must not throw implements during the competition except when it is their turn and then only from the circle or scratch line.

Availability and timing of practice facilities are exclusively at the discretion of the relevant track or field referee.

The referee or judge shall disqualify from competing in any event any athlete who wilfully disobeys the above instruction after his or her attention has been drawn to it.

A competitor in a field event who unreasonably delays in making a trial is liable to disqualification after a warning.

NOTE:

Administrative discretion may be exercised e.g. in relation to latecomers by an Appointed Officer whose decision is final.
