Meeting began at 2:00 PM

  1. Review of Change Orders

Mr. Ford discussed the below change orders.

Conrady Additions

  1. COR #010: Existing Roof Drains - $23,758.21
  1. There were 3 existing roof drains that needed to be rerouted. The reason for rerouting these roof drains is that where these roof drains previously terminated outside are now enclosed with additions. The rerouting of these roof drains involved multiple trades.
  2. COR #011: Classroom Hallway Speaker Addition - $4,710.11
  1. The original plans for the classroom addition did not include hallway speakers as part of the Public Announcement (PA) system. During a lockdown drill conducted in the fall, a staff member did not react to the all-call over the PA system to initiate lock-down procedures. Therefore it was determined that speakers for the PA system should be installed in the hallway. Hallway speakers also need to be added in the corridors near the library media center.

Mr. Ford asked if anyone had any questions regarding the above change orders. All committee members were fine with the change orders.

Mr. Moran had a question for ICI and Legat on the orientation of the electrical outlets in the new office. Mr. Moran had noticed that the grounding pin orientation did not match the rest of the building. He would like for ICI and Legat to make sure that the orientation of the grounding pin on the electrical outlets for the classroom addition match the rest of the building. Mr. Moran said the grounding pin is typically to the right in the Midwest.

Mr. Ford said they were placed correctly according to the specs.

Mr. Moran had asked if the fix is to flip all of the electrical outlets in the office area so that the orientation of the pin is facing in the same direction so they match existing orientation and continue with existing orientation going forward.

No decision was made at this time on changing the orientation of the electrical outlets in the office.

Mr. Moran said he just wants consistency.

II.2017 Facility Improvements

  1. Concrete ramp repair or replace at Sorrick
  1. This ramp will not be repaired in summer 2017. There has been water intrusion in the basement of Sorrick in the area of the ramp. There is a pipe in a chase below grade in the area of the ramp that intermittently has water flowing from it into the boiler room of Sorrick. Further exploration of this pipe needs to be conducted to determine the purpose of the pipe and the proper remedy for preventing the water intrusion.
  1. Technology changes at Dorn and Sorrick classrooms
  1. Mr. Grauke stated that he and Mrs. Murphy are currently working on pilots with the teachers as to whether or not conventional projector and white board or with an interactive projector and white board.
  2. The Smartboards at Sorrick and Dorn will be removed from the classroom. This work will go out to bid.
  1. Transportation
  1. We will be revisiting the transportation plans in March 2017
  1. 2017 Conrady Renovations
  1. Storm water detention
  1. Mr. Ford asked IHC and Legat their thoughts on the safety of allowing sport groups and outside organizations to use/rent the fields during the construction phase of the storm water detention. Ms. Papenhause said that for safety reasons she would not recommend it. Mr. Archibald also mentioned that the placement of the construction fence will be right near the north field and the only access for trucks may be to drive on the field.
  1. Citizen’s Participation
  1. None
  1. Other
  1. Mr. Ford addressed the north canopy. Mr. Ford mentioned that with all the rain we have been getting that was once again the only area that was dry. However, when the heavy winds came it did get a little wet under the canopy. Mr. Ford asked if all committee members present were okay with the canopy and all were agreed that it was fine.
  2. Dr. Stachowiak, Mr. Bunn, Mr. Ford, Mr. Grauke, Mr. Moran, Mr. Wroble, Mr. Archibald, Mr. Bickert, Ms. Papenhause and Mrs. LaMonto walked around Conrady to view the conduit, electrical, intercom, data, technology wiring as well as the pull boxes, hydronic pipes, roof drains and sprinklers to come up with a solution to make it look more presentable.
  1. Mr. Wroble asked Mr. Moran’s thoughts on adding some sort of a surface mount to cover all the wires as this may be more cost effective than trying to relocate all the wires. Mr. Ford would like to see the cost as well as a design for this option. Mr. Archibald stated that the pull boxes, hydronic pipes and roof drains will have to remain in their current location.
  2. Any unnecessary cabling will be removed.
  3. Mr. Archibald also mentioned that all the wood soffits are going to be removed and the intent is to get the sprinkler pipes higher in these areas if possible.
  4. Any existing pipes will be wrapped and covered with a slanted ceiling.
  5. Speakers will be placed in ceiling as opposed to hanging down.
  6. Mrs. Groark had called in with a question regarding the roof drains in classrooms. Mrs. Groark wanted to confirm that if any classrooms have roof drains that they will be insulated and Legat confirmed that if any classrooms have roof drains they will be insulated.
  7. After the meeting, Mr. Ford communicated with Mrs. Groark the answers to her questions.
  8. Mr. Moran stated that he would like to see some sort of a disclaimer in the specs going forward that no conduit, raceway or pipingbelow a specific elevation is allowed. Legat and the Committee will be more mindful of conduit and cabling placement at Conrady, specifically in the main gym, for all future installations.
  1. Next Buildings & Grounds committee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 2:00 PM.
