Building Stronger Communities Fund 2017

Grant Application

Partners across East Sussex are working together to achieve our shared ambition of improving health outcomes for local people, by enabling better connections with local communities.

To support this we are offering grants of up to £1,500 to communities and voluntary groups to support activities that follow the values and principles of asset based approaches for building stronger communities.

Values and Principles of asset based approaches:

  • Working with people to determine what they identify as improvements or solutions.

• Helping people to identify and focus on the assets and strengths within themselves and their communities, and supporting them to use these assets to make sustainable improvements in their lives.

• Supporting people to make changes for the better by enhancing skills for resilience, relationships, knowledge and self-esteem, including through building mutually supportive networks and friendships which help people make sense of their environments and take control of their lives.

• Supporting individuals and communities to design and develop actions that bring about improvements.

The Fund wishes to support activities that assist communities and groupsin the following aims:

  1. Develop an understanding of asset based approaches.
  2. Research and recognise people’s strengths and creativity that are available or could be available in an arear or community.
  3. Activate people’s strengths and creativity around a clear purpose and potential to contribute to wellbeing goals.
  4. Contribute to improved wellbeing and life chances for individuals, families or communities through collaborative working.

The Fund will make awards up to £1,500 (one thousand five hundred pounds) to communities and groups with an income of up to £50,000 (fifty thousand pounds).

There are no deadlines for submitting an application, so applicants can apply at any time. Applicants will be told if they are successful within three (3) weeks of the Recipient receiving a complete application.

You do not need to be a formally constituted voluntary group to apply for these funds, e.g. you may be a group of friends or neighbours who want to start some community activity in your area. If you are not a formally constituted group or you do not have a bank account you will need to work with your local voluntary sector infrastructure organisation (3VA, Hastings Voluntary Action (HVA) or Rother Voluntary Action (RVA)) who can hold funds on your behalf. You will find their details in the supporting guidance document.

Please refer to the Building Stronger Communities Fund 2017Guidance Notes to help you complete this form. We recommend that anyone thinking of putting in an application contacts one of the following organisations; 3VA, Hastings Voluntary Action (HVA) or Rother Voluntary Action (RVA), listed in the Guidance Note as they can provide advice and support before you send in your grant application.
