Federal Sectary Health brought on Board
Dr. Nabeela Ali COP, briefed Federal Secretary Health, Mr. Khushnood Akhtar Lashari in his office at Islamabad, on PAIMAN project. The new initiative of Child health and Family Planning under PAIMAN were also briefed. Discussions were done on proposed study tour of MOH delegation to Indonesia and deployment of CMWs. The Federal Secretary Health showed interest in the PAIMAN initiative and offered his support in implementation of project.
Building Capacity of Health Managers on LQAS
2-day training workshop, on Lot Quality Assurance Sampling (LQAS) Research Methodology was organized by the Population Council in close collaboration with JSIfrom April 29-30, 2009. 28 District Health Managers/supervisorsfrom new PAIMAN Districts Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, Vehari, Multan, Quetta and Sibi participated in the workshop. Participants were oriented on the sampling, LQAS, decision rule, LQAS table, Questionnaire, data collection and entry and finally interpretation of results. Mr. Frank White, DCOP PAIMAN and Dr. Shuaib Khan, Director Grants and Program (JSI-PAIMAN), attended the inaugural and closing sessions respectively.The certificates were distributed among the participants at the end of the training.
Agreement Signing Ceremony
Two agreement signing ceremonies were organized at JSI office Islamabad on April 28th 2009. The agreements were signed with the private health care providers from Balochistan, AJK and North Punjab. The sub grants agreements were also signed with the local NGOs from the same areas. DG Health AJK Dr. Qurban Mir and Regional Director MNCH program AJK Dr. Muhammad Rafique also attended the ceremony and showed keen interest to support implementation of project activities through local NGOs.
National Coordination Meeting
National Coordination meeting was organized at JSI /PAIMAN office Islamabad, on April 28th 2009. All consortium partners participated, the programmatic updates, issues and challenges were discussed along with the way forward to achieve the project goals successfully. The meeting was led by Dr. Nabeela Ali, COP JSI/PAIMAN.
PAIMAN Activities
Implementation of planned activities was reported by SCUS. PAVHNA had to close down their office due to unrest in the area and could not submit the report.
The PAIMAN activities have been suspended under the instructions of COP, till further orders due to critical unrest in districts Buner and Swat, after the security advisory.
The new sub grantee NGO reported the initiation of their activities including hiring of staff and initiation of mapping activity of their area.
