WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
With the advance in technology and increase in understanding of the anatomy, endoscopic skull base surgery developed dramatically in the recent decades. Nowadays, the anterior, middle and posterior skull base can be approached endoscopically with minimal morbidity to the patients compared with conventional open techniques. We attempt to demonstrate the surgical techniques of different endoscopic skull base procedures by our honoured guests, Professor P Castelnuovo andProfessor PJ Wormald. Participants can practise with hands-on dissection on the cadaver heads.
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Understand the endoscopic surgical anatomy to the skull base
- Recognize the endoscopic surgical techniques to different skull base areas
- Recognize the surgical techniques for repair of skull base defects
CADAVERIC DISSECTION (8:30am – 17:30pm)
Surgical procedures to be demonstrated / practiced:
Basic FESS Dissections - the “Full-House FESS”
Nasoseptal flap
Endoscopic sellar and suprasellar approaches
Endoscopic modified lothrop procedure
Endosopic approach to the anterior skull base
Endoscopic orbital decompression/ optic nerve decompression
Endoscopic medial maxillectomy
Endoscopic approach to the infratemporal fossa
Endoscopic approach to the clivus
