In this newly revised seminar, participants will learn how to apply The IIA’s International Professional Practices Framework, gain experience with the quality assessment process model, practice building the two key components of an effective QAIP, experience-developing metrics, and assess the readiness of their internal audit activity for an external quality assessment. This seminar is guided by Archie Thomas, CIA, CMA, FCMA, CFE, C. Dir. Archie is a Canadian quality assurance expert and an engaging instructor who brings years of experience to this topic. No matter what sector your business is in, this is the seminar you need to build a sustainable quality program.

This is the first of two courses designed to assist participants with their internal audit activity’s ability to comply with Standard 1300. The second course will be presented in 2014 at a location within Canada.

About the Facilitator

Archie Thomas is a Consulting Internal Auditor in risk, control, governance, quality and training. He has worked in over a dozen countries in mining, energy, utilities, retail, education, and government. He is on the Advisory Board of Willis Energy Services, on the Advisory Council of ClearView Strategic Partners Inc, on the faculty of The Directors College and an IIA Distinguished Faculty Member. He was editor and contributing writer on the IIA Research Foundation’s Essentials, an Internal Audit Operations Manual.

A qualified Internal Audit Quality Assessor/Validator, he has participated in Quality Assessments of over a dozen organizations in a variety of industries across Canada and overseas, and was instrumental in recent revisions to IIA Quality related guidance.

Previously, as a CAE in the mining industry, he led the transformation of a traditional internal audit department into a respected contributor to company performance. The function came to be seen as a consultative partner with senior executives and boardcommittees, advising on the management ofrisk and the enhancement of value added governance and control systems to help accomplish operational and strategic objectives.

Archie is a past director of the global IIA and a past chair it’s Committee on Quality and International Relations Committees. He currently serves on the Professional Issues Committee.

He is a past President and lifetime Honorary Member of the IIA Toronto Chapter and was recipient of the global IIA’s 2007 Victor Z Brink Award for Distinguished Service and IIA Canada’s 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award.
