New Information for Team Managers:

  • Many player applications are still missing. It is mandatory that medical waivers and league waivers be turned into the Athletic Director before a player practices with the team. Also, the Youth Club has started paying for the gyms and needs the player registration fees now. Team managers, please contact Linda Nakamura at if you are not sure about the status of any of your players, and contact any player that has not turned in an application and paid their fees. Your urgent support is requested.
  • Gym assignments have changed.

  • One coach from every Boys’ and Eteam must attend the Positive Coaching Alliance seminar on Saturday November 3, 2007, from noon to 4pm. The seminar is being paid for by EBYAL. The Youth Club will be penalized $100 for any coach who does not attend. Coaches of the Girls’ teams are invited to attend but the Club will not be penalized for non-attendance. Contact Julie Yamashita at to register or for information.
  • Each team should have 4 to 5 basketballs (one of which is a game ball), a first aide kit, and ice packs. Team Managers may purchase these items if the team needs them. Youth Club will reimburse your costs (contact Val Otsuka at or reimbursement). Other items such as cones and scrimmage pennies are typically personal property.
  • Ren Orans offered to lend out coaching tapes he has. Contact him if your team is interested.
  • Voluntary church-table set-up dates were chosen at the meeting. Each team is responsible for setting up the tables and chairs in the social hall once during the year. The schedule is:

Reminders:

  • 2008 Youth Club registrations fees will not be used to pay for any tournaments this year.
  • The League allows each team to request No Game for one weekend during the season. The request must be made soon. Games will startDecember 1 and continue through Dec. 23. Games will resume on Jan. 5 and the last game will be Feb. 16. Team managers, turn in any request for a No Game weekend now to Phil Li at . The Youth Club will be fined for any game that is forfeited. (consider holidays, Chinese new Years, ski week, etc)
  • This year a check for $150, pre-dated to August 1, 2008, will be collected for each player. The check will only be cashed if the service commitment for the player and the parent is not met, as a penalty. The service commitment will remain working at three of four events (mochitsuki, pancake breakfast fundraiser, bazaar and obon). But there will be no requirement for both a kitchen shift and construction shift. Instead shifts will be lengthened to 3 to 4 hours and the number of kitchen shifts will be limited.
  • The team manager is responsible for all uniforms. There will be a $40 charge for any uniform not returned. The team manager can decide how to enforce this rule (e.g. collect a check from each family at the start of the season, collect a check if the uniform is not returned, etc.)

Meeting Details:

Meeting attended by: Dave Hirota (president), Phil Li (Boy’s League rep), Linda Nakamura (athletic director), Valerie Otsuka (treasurer), Julie Yamashita (secretary), Pam Iguchi (Uniform Coordinator), Warren Kurisu (E-Bronze), Kim Wong (Boys C), Hollis Chin (Girls C-Bronze), Ren Orans (Girls C-Silver), Tak Otsuka. All teams except Boys B represented.

Youth Club will look into allowing another basketball club to rent gyms at Alameda Point instead of us. The gyms are not a convenient location for our members. Teams previously practicing at Alameda Point will move to Zion.

The new principal at Montera will not allow us to practice at the gym after 9:00. Therefore, practice time for the E teams will be reduced to one hour. Principal is considering cut off time of 8:30 so all our teams need to be on their best behavior, and be considerate of janitors to gain the confidence of the new principal. If either of the E teams want practice to begin before 6:30, that is ok from Montera’s standpoint.

Each team was asked to be responsible for setting up the tables in the church social hall once during the year. This is not part of the mandatory service commitment, but it is your team’s responsibility. The tables should be set up before service, which begins at 10:00 on Sunday. The work can be done any time between Friday night and Sunday morning. But if it is done on Friday or Saturday, the team will have to make arrangements to access the church. Ren offered to open the church on Fridays after practice, or the church will be open during Nihon Gakuen on Saturdays between 9 and noon. Table Set-up
