Professional Business Experience

I am an IBM Software IT Architect (SWITA) within the IBM Software Group, Financial Services Sector. I am aligned to designated IBM premier accounts, these are: (FIX SPACING ON BULLETS BELOW)

  • HSBC
  • Marsh
  • Allianz Cornhill

As my role is primarily customer centric it has three key areas of focus, the first being successful implementation and deployment of IBM's software, which involves working with the business, IT and third party vendors to review issues and advise on best practices, architectural patterns and determine solutions which require the deployment of software.

Second is to engage with the IBM sales team to steer their engagements so IBM will provide appropriate new technologies relevant to the customer and their existing technology infrastructures.

The third area of focus is to manage the technical relationship with the customer and ensure their experience with IBM is good, this can involve activities such as running workshops, technology briefings, dealing with support/contract issues, fact finding and project managing IBM for the customer. In this role I rely on my interpersonal skills and career experience to form relationships with both technical and business communities to promote IBM within the account. These relationships operate at all levels from key staff to senior worldwide board members including technicians and business operatives, although predominantly with heads of business groups, strategists and architects.

2002 – Early 2005Business Intelligence Technical Specialist / IBM Software Group

On becoming part of IBM I moved in to the Data Brand team focusing on Business Intelligence and Data warehousing in the Financial Services Sector as part of IBM Software. In this role I planned and delivered many successful technical sales engagements, which often involved multiple groups within IBM such as hardware and services in addition to working with partners such as CGEY, Ascenture and other large software vendors. I lead and project managed many technical activities such as Proofs of Technology, Proofs of Concept, Briefing Sessions, RFP/RFI/ITT response teams, benchmarking and Demonstrations.

2001 - 2002Data Warehousing Ambassador / Informix (Purchased by IBM 2002)

During my two years at Informix I worked as the company evangelist for Data Warehousing and provided both pre and post sales support for many of Informix's most important Business Intelligence customers and sales engagements. Additionally I presented at User Groups and Trade Shows and provided internal and external education and briefing sessions to sales and technical teams. Because of my knowledge and background I was designated the UK's key technical person for coordination of Business Intelligence resource and activities.

1998 - 2001Lead Technical Pre-Sales Engineer / RedBrick (Purchased by Informix 2001)

Before its acquisition by Informix RedBrick was a specialist vendor of very high performance data-warehousing technologies. I was the Lead Technical Pre-Sales Engineer and was focused on providing pre-sales support to new accounts. In this role I delivered briefing sessions, ran Proofs of Technology engagements, provided technology demonstrations, and was responsible for writing ITT/RFI/RFP responses and running benchmarks. In addition I ran RedBrick DBA training courses across Europe and provided customer support and consulting.

1996 - 1998Senior Business Intelligence Technical Specialist and Consultant / RCMS Limited

In this position I worked mainly as a Business Intelligence Consultant focusing on Database design, Multidimensional data modelling, Database implementation and Tuning, Reporting and Analysis Development and Delivery. To facilitate delivery of this consultancy I worked with tools / databases such as Business Objects, Cognos, Oracle Express Objects, Ardent DataStage, Oracle and Sybase.

1995 - 1996Principal Banking, Payments and Transfers Specialist / National Data Corporation

I was responsible for a set of European-based accounts and provided on-site consulting-based support for the installation, development and running of cross-border payment systems between Major retailers and various banks. This role would often require new mechanisms to be set-up to facilitate changes to SWIFT banking standards and to cater for the addition of new standards such as PAYORD.

1991 - 1995Document Management and Imaging Technical Specialist / YMIJS

I worked as both a pre and post sales consultant with many of the top legal companies based in the City of London. My responsibilities included the design and implementation of Document Management systems and on-going support of these systems, which were used in-house at Law firms and courts to produce evidence as a reference system for the lawyers and barristers. Additionally I was responsible for implementing the systems in courts and ensuring it produced the 'evidence' documents for the legal team to refer to during hearings.

1998 - 1990Developer / MEAP

Whilst I was at University (and shortly after) I worked at a Software house as a developer, writing applications (C and Crystal) to provide Computer Based Training packages for Insurance companies.
