Brussels Job Day: opportunity for thousands of jobseekers to meet employers
Brussels, 5 October 2012 - The European Commission is organising its sixth Brussels Job Day in the Commission's Berlaymont headquarters on 6th October. The event, which is one of the many Job Days organised throughout Europe, aims to showcase opportunities for jobseekers to link up with companies throughout the EU that want to recruitpeople, notablythrough the EURES network.Jobseekers will be able to meet face to face and connect online with advisers from the EURES network to find out more about opportunities to live and work in another EU country.
EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion László Andor commented"The Job Days in Brussels and elsewhere are a showcase to help jobseekers to get to know how they canlink up with employers in different EU countries. The Commission's April 2012 Employment Package highlighted that the building of a true European labour market is a necessity for tackling Europe's record levels of unemployment as well as for an efficient and sustainable European economy. More than ever before, we need to help to match employers seeking to recruit people with particular skills with jobseekers with those skills in other EU countries, notably through the EURESnetwork and its pan-EU job mobility portal. I will be coming forward shortly with a proposal to develop EURES into a fully-fledged cross-border job placement and recruitment tool."
This year's Job Day focuses on the growth sectors that the Commission identified in the April 2012Employment Package: the green economy, healthcare and ICT-related jobs. There will be presentations by companies offering jobs in those three sectors and a panel discussion on ICT-related jobs.
A conference at the Job Day will focus on measures to help young jobseekers find work in another European country. It will present the pilot project "Your first Eures job" which provide practical support and EU financial aid to such mobile jobseekers (Your First EURES Job – see IP/12/492).
The Commission is expecting around 10,000 participants at the Brussels Job Day. More than 60 companies and 30 institutions and organisations that encourage mobility have already confirmed their participation onsite.
The online feature introduced this year has attracted another 70 companies that will connect with thousands of jobseekers across Europe thanks to online video-chats and interviews. Onsite and online employers together offer more than 2000 jobs in more than 30 countries.Online visitors will also be able to follow live the presentations and panel discussions
Practical details
People can pre-register at europeanjobdays.eu/brussels and mark their interest for vacancies corresponding to their profiles, allowing them to maximise their chances for direct on-the-spot interviews onsite and online. Employers will have access to the CVs saved online before and during the interviews.

Background
Hundreds of Job Days take place throughout the year all over Europe. They are now evolving from traditionally local, onsite events to more comprehensive onsite and online Job Days, where people can participate also from a distance. After several successful online days this year focusing on specific national labour market needs (notably in Manchester and Aarhus), the Brussels Job Day will be the first to offer an online feature addressing the entire European labour market.
Last year, the Brussels Job Day attracted more than 10,000 participants who visited about 50 employers' stands and 21 EURES stands. About 6,000 CVs were collected by employers and 700 visitors were contacted again for a second interview. 94% of the employers found the event definitely useful.
The candidates were particularly motivated and multilingual and almost 61% of them had a university degree or equivalent. They came from all over Belgium (83% living in Belgium) and from other countries.
Set up in 1993, EURES is the European network for workers' mobility involving the European Commission and the Public Employment Services (PES) of the EEA countries (the EU Member States plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein), Switzerland and social partners' organisations. The EURES network is responsible for exchanging information and enabling cooperation among its stakeholders in order to help realise actual access to freedom of movement of workers.
The European Job Mobility Portal of EURES provides actual access to over 1,3 million job vacancies and receives 4 million visits every month. The portal currently contains 900.000 CVs and 26.000 employers registered. There are hundreds of events taking place all over Europe that can be consulted in the EURES Events Calendar.
