Mission Statement: The Bruce Mitchell Foundation’s mission is to provide merit academic scholarships to Parma High School graduates whose intent is to engage in and complete a formal education through an accredited university or college.
Scholarships are awarded to qualified students between the ages of 16 and 30 years, with preference given to Parma High School graduates. All scholarships are renewable for four academic years based upon the recipient’s ability to meet certain performance criteria. Awards are made annually to the colleges and universities, disbursed according to grading periods, and remain in effect for a full academic year as long as the recipient meets performance standards.
Applicant Eligibility Requirements:
Graduating high school seniors
- Must be between ages of 16 and 30
- Must have an overall GPA (seven semesters) of 3.0 or better at time of filing application
- Must be enrolled as a full-time student in curriculum essential or important to earning a bachelor’s degree or better
Post high school graduates
- Must be between the ages of 16 and 30
- Must have a current transcript as a full time student from an accredited university or college
- Must be enrolled as a full-time student in curriculum essential or important to earning a bachelor’s degree or better
Instructions for Submitting an Applicant’s Packet:
Applicant MUST include in his/her packet:
- A completed and signed application form
- An essay expressing a personal statement addressing one’s educational goals and any other pertinent information not covered in the packet
- A copy of the Letter of Acceptance from one’s college or university
- An official high school transcript. If applicant is a post high school graduate, a current transcript as a full-time student from an accredited college or university is also required
- A letter of recommendation written by a teacher, school administrator/staff, or employer
- A resume, referencing honors, jobs, activities (both school and community), etc.
THE APPLICATION PACKET MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE BRUCE MITCHELL FOUNDATION OR THE PARMA HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR BY FEBRUARY 15.
Final selection for Scholarship WINNERS may be based upon one or any combination of the following:
- Professional appearance of the Application Packet
- SAT/ACT scores
- Quality of the essay
- An interview to be scheduled with a Bruce Mitchell Trustee
- Number of years as a student at Parma High School
