Broward Implementation of GoSOLAR Florida

Permitting System Adjustment Notes – 3/21/2016

The Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) is building a system that will generate design plans for solar photovoltaic system installations. Customers will be able to obtain PDF-formatted plans from the FSEC system and may submit those plans, together with their permit application, to the agency that has jurisdiction over their project.

Broward staff will need the ability to 1) remind customers that the FSEC system is available; 2) indicate that plans received with a permit application came from the FSEC system; 3) verify the authenticity of those plans; and 4) later find those permits that were submitted with FSEC designs.

To support the Go SOLAR Florida effort, Broward County adjusted the building permitting software as outlined below.

1)On the online customer application, if a customer selects a SOLAR Master Permit Type, show the message, “Certified plans generation system is available at gosolar.florida.org”, with a link to that site. The link was set up so that it remains hidden until a system administrator enters a valid URL into the system configuration area. Example:

2)When staff completes a plan review for Electrical, Structural, or Plumbing:

  1. Anew fieldwill capture the ID number of any FSEC plans submitted by a customer.
  1. A linkin the system will direct staff to the FSEC website for the purpose of verifying that submitted plans were generated by the FSEC system. The link was set up so that it remains hidden until a system administrator enters a valid URL into the system configuration area. Example:

3)Asimple reportis needed to list general information for any permit that includes FSEC plans (ie. has an FSEC plan ID number). Existing system search/query functionality can be used for this purpose, so a custom report need not be developed. Example:
