Mary Broom saith,
I being then a single woman was married to the said William Broom in the parish of BSM in the year 1829, by whom I have four children now living viz Mary Ann age about 13, Clara age about 9, Emma age about 5 and George age about 2, and my said children are now chargeable to the said parish of BSM having for many weeks passed received 2 shillings and 4 loaves of bread a week of the relieving officer, my said husband about 6 months ago left me and I don't know where he is now living.
X the mark of Mary Broom.
John Osborne saith,
In the year 1813 I let a dwelling house and dairy of cows to George Broom the father of the said William Broom in the parish of Luppitt Devon at the rate of 240 guineas or 240 pounds (I forgot which), which house and dairy he occupied about 5 years and paid the rent. The house and land on which the cows depastured was called Windsor Farm and the said George Broom resided on the said farm in the parish of Luppitt for the said 5 years. At the time the said George Broom so rented the said house and dairy the said William Broom the husband of the said Mary Broom was under the age of 10 years. The said George Broom died in the said farm and afterwards his widow continued to rent the said house and dairy of me for several years and paid the rent for the same
John Osborne.
William Fowler saith,
I am clerk of the Chard Union within which is comprised the said parish of BSM. On the 17th day of April last the said Mary Broom became chargeable and is now chargeable to the said parish of BSM as appears by the certificate of the board of guardians of the said Union now produced by use the signatures of the presiding chairman and myself thereto being in the respective handwriting of such chairman and myself and the seal affixed to the said certificate being the common seal of the said Union and always used as such, and the person who signed the said certificate as presiding chairman was the presiding chairman on the date of the said certificate.
