DALLASBROMLEY
Bromley’s works are glimpses of time, in which she translates the interplay of light and shadow and the unfolding dramatic visions in the spaces beyond. Some of her paintings suggest her exploration of the streets of large cities and hillside towns around the world, whilst otherswander the shores of countless coasts, observing the splendour of unleashed elements and the contrast tranquillity of theirunderwater environs.
During 2006, Bromley’s latest works from the “Traveller” series are being exhibited around Australia and overseas. These paintings are heavily layered with impasto, and one can almost touch the crumbling, time-worn architecture from a bygone era. The work draws on the ancient warmth and colour of cities with an earthy richness in their narrow cobbled streets. Amidst the urban sprawl and city squares of overwhelming history, every turn uncovers unique streetscapes and hidden corners ripe with rendezvous or discovery.
Bromley first began conceptualizing the “Traveller” series in 1997 during her journeys through Italy, and further developed the works whilst spending time in Spain and Franceover the last few years. This series has been exhibited since 2000 in Sydney, Melbourne, Noosa, Hobart, Perth, and internationally. As Bromley explores this series further, she continues to push her techniques used to create these works by “sculpting” the surface with visually dimensional values.
The “Immersion” or underwater series focuses on capturing the essence of immersion and the saturated hues of the underwater realm. The filtered light through the water gives the sense of drifting weightlessly amidst the myriad colours of sea life, exploring sumptuous sapphire canyons in the reflected light from the world above.
The “Oceanscapes” series captures the sea, land and sky of our dreams and memories. Skies rich with atmospheric forces – intense palpable elements. The fleeting moment at twilight when the sky and the sea are fused in electric blue and the hues disgorged at the beginning and the end of the day.
Sydney based writer Grant Wolf, who connected with her work at an earlier exhibition, says Bromley’s works “exude modern mythology, rich with strong, contrasting sexy tones”.
