POSITION TITLE: Student Justice Centre Campaigns Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Student Justice Centre Supervisor

CLASS: 4

DATE: May, 2016

DURATION OF TERM: August – April

HOURS: 10-15 hours per week during the school year

Remuneration: $11.40/hour

SECTION 1: PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION

The Student Justice Centre (SJC) is building a diverse team of Student Coordinators who have a strong interest in promoting inclusivity on campus. The SJC Campaigns Coordinator will develop, run and help market campaign initiatives in conjunction with the Supervisor and Ombudsperson each academic term.

Campaign Responsibilities:

·  Responsible for mapping out a campaign strategy for each academic term.

·  Will work independently and in conjunction with the team to create high impact educative campaigns on a variety of social justice issues matching the needs of the campus.

·  Focus will be on diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, anti-oppression, sexual violence and student empowerment.

·  Will organize campaign initiatives with volunteers including marketing, execution, and debriefing.

·  If campaigns include an event component, coordinator will organize event logistics, complete appropriate risk management assessments, prepare budgets, correspond with relevant stakeholders and contributors, advertise events, assess feasibility, and prepare alternative plans (particularly for outdoor events).

·  Campaigns may include social media, vlogging, blogging, and in-person tabling, and will be planned in collaboration with the team.

·  Assist with special projects.

·  Submit requests for volunteers where needed and delegate responsibilities to said volunteers.

·  Evaluate campaign success after its execution; submitting a written impact report.

·  Will have key holding responsibilities.

·  Other tasks reasonably assigned.

Other Responsibilities:

·  Increase awareness of SJC services.

·  Work closely with the Creative Digital Media Coordinator to launch campaigns.

·  Maintains SJC’s branding in all campaigns.

SECTION 2: POSITION REQUIREMNTS

·  Strong ability to uphold confidentiality while dealing with very sensitive topics and issues.

·  Must feel comfortable addressing a variety of sensitive issues in a non-reactive and compassionate manner.

·  Must be able to deal with a variety of mental stresses as the position deals with racism, sexism, sexual assault and other forms of prejudice.

·  Professionalism while dealing with sensitive situations.

·  Interest in diversity issues and promoting an inclusive campus at Brock.

·  Strong oral and written communication skills.

·  Strong interpersonal skills.

·  Able to work independently, problem solve, and take initiative.

·  Able to work in a team environment with a diverse group of people.

SECTION 3: HUMAN RELATIONS SKILLS, PROBLEM SOLVING AND ACCOUNTABILITY

·  Frequent contact with the SJC Supervisor, SJC Coordinators and Ombudsperson.

·  Occasional contact with staff members of the University when working on special projects.

·  Occasional contact with BUSU staff members.

SECTION 4: TRAINING

There will also be on-the-job training to further develop your positions related skills, as well as scheduled training sessions throughout the year in the area of social justice.

SECTION 5: WORKING CONDITIONS

PHYSICAL EFFORT

The majority of the work does not require a high level of physical activity. However, some physical effort may be needed in circumstances with receiving, moving, loading or unloading supplies and materials, setting up for campaigns.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

Standard office environment.

SENSORY ATTENTION

Working on a computer, working with and communicating with students, staff and community members. Need to listen intently and to pay attention to body language when meeting one-on-one with individuals.

SECTION 6: ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

·  Must be a registered undergraduate student at Brock University at the time of application.

·  Legally eligible to work in Canada.

·  Preference given to students with less than 5 credits per term.

·  Available to work from August-April.

·  Must maintain a 60+ academic average.
