THE CECILIA VAJDA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

In the late 1960s, following a request from Yehudi Menuhin for a teacher to introduce the Kodály concept to the Menuhin School, Zoltán Kodály sent Cecilia Vajda to the UK. By sheer determination and inspirational work she sowed the seeds of the Kodály network that is with us today.

Following her death in November 2009, the Trustees of the British Kodály Academy decided to set up a scholarship in her memory. There can be no more fitting reminder of a great teacher than to give a deserving student a chance to learn more about the Kodály approach.

The aim of the scholarship is to provide tuition fees on specific Kodály courses for selected students. The first award will be for tuition fees at the 2012 Summer School.

Obviously the most difficult and the most important challenge will be to raise money for the fund. We need to raise sufficient funds to guarantee the tuition fees for at least one student at the Summer School each year and, if possible, at other approved courses as well.

Some of us were lucky enough to have been taught by Cecilia. The passion for Kodály’s work and teaching radiated from her and was inspirational in every way. She changed our musical lives; your donation would contribute towards enriching others’ lives in a similar way.

If you feel that you would like to contribute something towards this project it would be very gratefully received – no amount is too small.

Please download a form from the BKA website and send it with your donation to Cyrilla Rowsell, BKA Secretary, 10, Lapwing Close, South Croydon, Surrey CR2 8TD.

Many thanks,

Cyrilla K. Rowsell (Secretary, British Kodály Academy)
