Boxing has featured in the Olympic Games since 1904 and England Boxing has a highly successful record of achieving Olympic medals winning three gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal at London 2012, one gold and two bronze medals in Beijing 2008, silver in 2004 and gold in 2000.

In partnership with GB Boxing, England Boxing’s Performance Pathway is undergoing a period of unprecedented change and is committed to building a system that delivers an ever-improving Performance System and an ever-increasing number of appropriate experiences to prepare boxers for international success. Every England boxer will be given the best possible opportunity to win medals on the world stage across both men’s and women’s, senior, youth and junior programmes.

TheEngland Boxing Talent Development Coachreports directly to the England Boxing Head of Talentand will support in the creation, refinement and maintenance of a culture of excellence and continuous improvement within England Boxing leading to sustained success on the international stage.

Successful applicants will be required to commit to minimum of fifty days work each year. The majority of programme activity will place at weekends and during school holidays.

Position Description

Title:England Boxing Talent Development Coach

Reporting to:Head of Talent

Salary:£125 per day

Hours:Sessional (mainly weekends and school holidays)

LocationEnglish Institute of Sport in Sheffield, with significant travel throughout the UK and internationally

Main Responsibilities:

1.Working closely with the other Talent Development Coaches and the Head of Talentto assist in the development and implementation of a single integrated World Class Pathway Plan for Boxing in England in line with agreed overall strategic direction for England boxing

2.To work with the Head of Talent and GB Boxing Performance Pathway Manager to provide input and coaching knowledge into the profiles/criteria against which elite boxers can be selected to the England Talent Programme

3.To work with the Head of Talent and GB Boxing Performance Pathway Manager to progress and continually develop boxers towards the Great Britain Podium and Podium Potential programmes

4.To assist the Head of Talentin the delivery of individual training and competition programmes for each of the selected boxers, in liaison with club coaches and home nation national coaches where appropriate

5.To assist the Head of Talent in developing strategy, tactics and evaluation during competition both at home and abroad

6.To work closely with the England Coaching Team and Head of Talent to implement, as directed, the high-quality periodised training and competition programmes for boxers selected to the England Talent Programme

7.To monitor training sessions as directed and provide reports to the Head of Talent on individual boxers performance in training and competition

8.To develop relationships with and utilise the latest sports science techniques and methods in conjunction with the appropriate support bodies and to ensure the highest quality of sports science/medicine services and technical support

9.To assist in the assessment of boxers and provide input into the discussions relating to assessment and selection of boxers

10.To attend and provide coaching to specific squad training where agreed and directed by the Head of Talent

11.To provide coaching to the selected boxers on a team, specialist and individual basis, working across both male and female, youth and junior squads

12.To assist the Head of Talent in conjunction with the coaching team in the construction of the England Boxing Talent Development framework

The post holder will share with all colleagues the responsibility:

1.For making suggestions to improve the working situation and contribute to positive employee relations within their area of work and within the sport of Boxing as a whole

2.To help develop and maintain a successful image and profile for England and GB Boxing both within the UK and worldwide

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full Coaching course (level 2 and above)
  • UK Driving License holder

Desirable

  • Sports Specific qualification
  • AIBA 1, 2 or 3 star coach

Experience

Essential

  • Broad and deep understanding of Boxing Can demonstrate an understanding of the needs of elite boxers/coaches
  • Proven track record in developing England Champion’s at either junior, youth and senior – men or women
  • Is able to vary their coaching approach to nurture and consistently develop the very best performances from both male and female boxers across the 14 to 24 age range
  • Able to support boxers to make behavioural changes that have a positive impact on performance
  • Committed to continuous personal improvement
  • Excellent planning skills
  • Can set clear, meaningfuland measurable targets
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Encourages creativity and contribution from others

Desirable

  • Experience working with female boxers at an elite level
  • Personal coach of a successful international boxer from early development phase to success in the GB squad
  • Experience in leading boxing programmes, either regionally, locally or nationally
  • Proven track record in a world class sporting environment having significant experience on the International stage
  • Media awareness
