P.M. Warren Visiting Professorship in Aegean Prehistory
The Institute of Greece, Rome and the Classical Tradition (IGRCT) was established in 2000 under the Directorship of Professor Robert Fowler, Wills Professor of Greek at the University of Bristol, to support research into any aspect of Greek and Roman civilisation and the classical tradition, from prehistory to the present day, with particular emphasis on work exploring the links between ancient and modern. The Institute will host a Visiting Professorship in Aegean Prehistoryduring the academic year 2015/2016, funded through a generous donation by the Institute for Aegean Prehistory (INSTAP) in honour of Professor Peter Warren, on the occasion of his 70th birthday in 2008.
Eligibility: the Visiting Professorship is open to established scholars(i.e. scholars who have reached a position at least equivalent to Associate Professor, or have produced publications that have made a significant contribution to the field of Aegean Prehistory),working on a project related to the field of Aegean Prehistory as specified in INSTAP’s remit (i.e. from the Neolithic period to 776 BC). The Visiting Professorship is open to both overseas and UK/EU residents. Recently retired academics are also eligible.
Duration of tenure: a minimum of 4 to a maximum of 10 weeks during term time ina normal academic year (betweenmid-September and the end of June, excluding Christmas and Easter Vacations).
Financial and other arrangements: the Visiting Professorship carries an emolument of £5,000, which should also be used towards travel and accommodation expenses. The IGRCT will offer help and advice on travel to and accommodation in Bristol, but related expenses will be met by the appointed candidate through her/his emolument. In addition to this emolument, the appointed candidate will be offered shared office space in the University, and will be able to use the University Libraries and other facilities, such as free provision of stationary, postage, and photocopying in connection with her/his research.
Duties of Visiting Professor: the Visiting Professor will be expected to engage in the research outlined in her/his application, and to deliver at least one lectureor seminar on her/his research during her/his tenure. S/he will also be expected to participate in the intellectual activities of the IGRCT and Bristol University in general, and to acknowledge the IGRCT and INSTAP in any publications emerging from her/his research in Bristol.
