SESSIONAL YOUTH CLUB MANAGER

JOB DESCRIPTION: SESSIONAL YOUTH CLUB MANAGER

Reporting to: The “Building Bridges” Project Coordinator – South Monmouthshire.

Based at: Primary base will be the Building Bridges Youth Club at Caerwent Community Centre, Caerwent, Caldicot although there will be opportunity for additional hours throughout Monmouthshire.

Payment:

Starting salary £10 per hour, rising to £15 per hour after initial training.

Hours

Normal working hours are Mondays 5.45pm-7.45pm + 30 minutes flexible time for planning and paperwork, totalling 2.5 hours a week excluding bank holiday Mondays. This position will also require flexibility to attend team meetings and training in addition to normal working hours- this time will be paid.

Duration of Post:Fixed term for the duration of the Building Bridges Project. This Project is likely to end at the end of December 2017, although this maybe extended if we can secure further funding.

Job Purpose

To manage a team of youth club leaders, personal assistants and volunteers to successfully run a busy youth club for young people with disabilities (aged 14-25) through planning and running group activities that promote the development of the young people on the project.

The Building Bridges Project will draw to a close in December 2017 after 4 years of funding from the Big Lottery. In order to ensure the sustainability and ongoing success of the youth club, the newly appointed manager will be responsible for setting up a steering group of young people, parents and other stakeholders to oversee the running and delivery of the club post December 2017.

The youth club manager will work as part of the wider Building Bridges team to support the delivery of our Big Lottery funded project within the term of the business plan, budget requirements and outcome targets.

Duties and Responsibilities

1)Ensure effective day-to-day running of the youth club.

2)To provide leadership, supervision and development for youth club leaders, personal assistants and volunteers.

3)Be responsible for volunteer recruitment, coordination, induction, training and review in accordance with Bridges Volunteering Policy.

4)To work in partnership with other agencies to provide additional opportunities for young people.

5)To work with young people, parents and other stakeholders to set up a steering group to inform the work of the youth club and investigate governance structures to ensure its long term sustainability.

6)Lead the process of evaluation of the club.

7)To plan and run activities that enable young people to increase social networks, develop social skills, increase resilience and wellbeing.

8)To act as a Key Worker for a caseload of young people attending the club and feedback to family members on issues and progress.

9)To work with each young person to enhance their skills and experience, and improve their confidence and self-motivation.

10)To encourage and support young people to engage with the activities outlined in point 7 above.

11)To support young people to develop and update their transition plans.

12)To support and encourage young people to achieve the goals set out in their transition plans.

13)To record relevant progress notes relating to the transition plan, and to update the project paperwork relating to the Building Bridges project.

14) To build up knowledge and expertise on what opportunities are available for young people aged 14-25 in Monmouthshire.

15) Tocollect and monitor data required to further develop the project.

16) To provide information and guidance to young people, families and other professionals who require information about the Building Bridges Project.

17) To identify your own training and development needs and take action to meet these needs.

18) To maintain up to date knowledge of regulations and statutory responsibilities in relation to disabled children/young adults.

19) To ensure that principles of equality, diversity and accessibility are incorporated into all project activities

20) To maintain safe working practices for self and others, in accordance with Bridges Community Centre’s Health and Safety policy.

21)To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be requested by the Project Coordinator.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

1. Essential requirements

(To be evidenced by qualifications, application and previous experience)

  • Possess a professional qualification in health and social care, youth/community level 3 or above or has lived experience of disability, e.g. is a disabled person, is a parent of a disabled person or has a sibling with a disability.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding vulnerable young people
  • Experience of working with young people/adults with disabilities.
  • Experience of working across agencies such as education, housing, leisure, health services and how to access support for families.
  • Experience of working in a person/family centred way, working to the strengths of individuals.
  • Experience of dealing with complex situations where emotions are running high.
  • Experience of accommodating the communication and support needs of individuals so all parties can contribute to assessments and reviews.
  • Excellent communication skills – oral and written.
  • Ability to engage and gain trust/confidence with young adults/families through the project.
  • Excellent recording skills.
  • Flexibility in relation to working hours and days.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • IT literacy
  • Current driving licence and access to car.

2. Desirable requirements

(To be evidenced by qualifications, application and previous experience)

  • Recognised professional qualification and/or equivalent in health/ social care or voluntary sector e.g. social work, education, community/youth work, careers guidance.
  • Experience of managing a team.
  • Developed IT skills – Microsoft project etc.
  • Welsh language skills.
