The Governors are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and flexible person to become a Swimming Instructor. The successful candidate will assume overall responsibility for the effective management and operation of both pools.

This position will allow the successful candidate to develop their skills and experience in working with children with SEN. The candidates will ensure that high standards of service are maintained, enhancing safe and enjoyable usage of the pool’s facilities.


The successful candidate will have the ability to promote mobility and independence skills in our pupils. It would be an advantage to be able to contribute to the wider sporting curriculum of the school.

GRADE OF POST: Scale 5-6 (Subject to Job Evaluation)

RESPONSIBLE TO: Headteacher

JOB PURPOSE:

To take overall responsibility for the effective management and operation of Heronsbridge School Swimming Pool & Hydro Pool.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:

·  Be responsible for the operational management of the pools which will involve the chlorination and maintenance of chemical levels of both pools.

·  Be responsible for the filtration, sanitation, cleanliness and overall safety of the facilities. Completing all records and reports concerning the pool, including maintenance records and chemical readings.

·  To maintain stock of all necessary chemicals.

·  To be responsible for all aspects of Health and Safety related to the pool.

·  Experience of teaching swimming to SEN students to improve their mobility and independence skill and promote their confidence in the water.

·  Provide lifesaving supervision on a daily basis.

·  Work independently within the established policies and procedures of the school.

·  Attends staff meetings

GENERAL DUTIES

To undertake the Health and Safety responsibilities which fall within a

manager’s role and the personal Health and Safety responsibilities within the

HASAWA 1974.

To ensure that all activities are operated in accordance with Equal

Opportunities legislation and Best Practice.

Qualifications & Training / ·  R.L.S.S Instructor or higher
·  Royal Life Saving Society Qualified at bronze medallion or NRASTC Award Level or higher.
·  Pool plant operator qualified
·  Qualified in the care and management of disabled swimmers and non swimmers (children) / Production of original Qualification Certificates and application form.
Knowledge & Experience / ·  Operation of a swimming pool, including sanitation, maintenance and safety.
·  Understand current H&S legislation and BCBC H&S Policies that impact upon the posts responsibilities.
·  Experience of teaching swimming to SEN students.
·  At least one years experience of working at a swimming pool
·  Working as a lifesaver with experience / understanding of pool side environment. / Interview, application form and reference

Working Hours

The working week is 32.5 hours term time only. However, there may be a requirement to work in excess of these hours according to the needs of the service.

Location

The normal place of work will be Heronsbridge School, Ewenny Road, Bridgend

Medical Clearance

Any offer of appointment is subject to medical clearance. You will be required to complete a medical questionnaire, but may also require medical examination before appointment.
