Bridge Repair Assistant SG-9

Job Description:

Bridge Repair Assistants, using hand and power tools, perform semi-skilled activities in a number of trades in the repair and maintenance of bridges under the supervision of a skilled trades employee.

Duties:

As a Bridge Repair Assistant (BRA), you would be expected to have a working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used by the various construction trades (e.g. carpentry, masonry, welding, etc.) as they apply to bridge repair and maintenance operations. In addition, a BRA needs the ability to perform above-ground work, the ability to use and operate tools, machines, equipment, and vehicles required in bridge repair and maintenance operations, as well as the ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor and ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

Minimum Qualifications:

For appointment to the journey level Bridge Repair Assistant SG-9, you must have:

  • Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesman or training gained through completion of a technical course in bridge or technical trade at a school or institute or successful completion of a two-year traineeship.
  • Class B CDL
  • Medical exam and drug test at time of hire.

For appointment to Bridge Repair Assistant Trainee 2, you must have:

  • Commercial Driver's License
  • More than one year but less than two years of qualifying experience (as described in journey level qualifications).

For appointment to Bridge Repair Assistant Trainee 1, you must have:

  • Class D Motor Vehicle License
  • Less than one year of qualifying experience (as described in journey level qualifications).

Salary:

Newly appointed Bridge Repair Assistants SG-9 earn a starting salary of $36,051 (as of April 5, 2018). Appointees in the New York City area (Bronx, Nassau, New York, Queens, Richmond [State Island], Rockland, Suffolk and Westchester Counties) will receive an additional $3,026annual location pay differential.Appointees in the Mid-Hudson area (Dutchess, Orange and Putnam Counties) will receive an additional $1,513location pay differential.
