Required items:

  1. Completed application form (this form with your signature)
  2. CV
  3. A personal statement (1,000 words max) outlining your completed research, work in progress, professional goals and planned career trajectory, and any other information relevant to your candidacy
  4. Teaching Philosophy (500 words max)
  5. A sample syllabus from one of the courses you have taught, which includes instructions for major assignments for the course
  6. Two letters of recommendation
  7. An email from your Director of Graduate Studies stating the following: “NAME OF APPLICANT completed the PhD on ______or is expected to complete the program for August 2017 graduation.”No more and no less should be sent by your graduate director.

***Items 1-5 must be sent electronically in one pdf in the order listed to by 5 p.m. on April 10, 2017.

***Items 6 and 7 should arrive separately from your recommenders and graduate director (and those materials should also be directed to ) by 5 p.m. April 10, 2017.

If I am selected as a Bridge Humanities Corps Member, I will forsake all other employment from 8/16/17 – 5/15/18, and I commit to the following requirements of the program and agree to the compensation.

Requirements:

  • Doctorate in hand by August 2017 (mandatory)
  • If interdisciplinary pedagogical training on meeting the Carolina Core (VSR and CMS) requirements has not been completed, attend training in late summer
  • 3:3 teaching load as instructor of record for SAEL 200
  • Involvement in campus-wide humanities initiative(s)
  • Weekly pedagogical sessions during the fall semester
  • Attend at least 10 professional development sessions (five per semester)
  • Submit two reports to the program facilitators (due December 2017 and May 2018)

Compensation:

  • $32,500 salary over the academic year
  • Health insuranceaccess
  • Cohort program to provide support for new professionals

***The following applies only to current 2016-17 Corps members: I acknowledge 1) current Corps members are not guaranteed reappointment; 2) current Corps members will be evaluated along with all other applicants through a competitive selection process; 3) teaching evaluations from current Corps members’ first year as Corps members will be evaluated; and 4) participation in the pedagogical and professional development meetings during the 2016-17 academic year will be considered.

I acknowledge that upon acceptance into the Bridge Humanities Corps that I will be required to sign a formal letter of commitment consistent with this agreement as part of the application.
